Ragavendran Sir, As Ram says your work is simply superb. Kindly continue bring out the rare gems.
Another good and popular song during the period of film's release is "Manthira punnagai" from Visu's "Manal Kayiru".

This is one of the best composition sung by S Janaki in her career. Iraiva Iraiva - when she prays the Lord you will feel she is praying for everyone of us. Such is the expression in her voice brought out by Viswanathan Ramamurthi duo in this film. Ammamma keladi thozhi by L R Easwari and Kovai Kamala (now singing in KBS voice), Ellorum Ellaamum peravendum & Thangachi chinnaponnu (both by Sirgazhi), Aadavaralam by L R Easwari are all already popular numbers. But this song by S Janaki is the best I feel.

Kannanai Ninaikkaadha Naalillaiyae - this is a super duper hit and every body knows it. But this is equally appealing particularly in the voice of SPB. Beautiful composition, foottapping rhythm, Trademark bgm by MSV (trademark means nobody else can never even think of). This deserves analysis musically.

This remake of Muquadaar ka Sikhander was criticised as not upto the mark by critics. I don't think so at least as far as music is concerned. MSV worked hard and has given the best and this criticism was unwanted and comparison unnecessary. Because of this slander, the film did not raise upto expectation and the result affecting the music. But actually, idhayam paesinaal by Vani Jayaram is one such number which Hindi people can't even imagine. You listen to this song and will curse those critics for their erratic judgements.

This is an outstanding melody - a lullaby by P Suseela. Savithri's expressions will make you feel that she is singing and you will forget Suseela. This synchronisation of lip movement and facial expression will breath life into the song. All the songs in this film are superhit particularly the western and karnatic duet by TMS J P Chandrababu - rock rock rock rock and roll, kokkarakko sevale by TMS Jikki, etc.

Dear Ram,
I know I am overdoing but I am unable to stop it. The reason is simple. The next generation should know the real potential of MSV. There are so much of his compositions that have not seen the light of the day. This is just a compilation of such numbers and I know I am taking too much liberty. But I take it on the positive side and shall continue to bring out the genius in MSV. Because of those commercialised frequency murdering stations (FM), none of them bothers to bring the MSV's popular numbers, leave alone these rare gems. I can just list out the songs, but a line or two is necessary to introduce them. I think I am selecting the rarest of them all which I have enjoyed even from my childhood along with the AIR, so as my dear friend Sabesan. He is even more an ardent fan. I take this chance to express my sincere thanks to Sabesh for being a part of your core group and bringing this site. As I told Mr. Ramki, I shall try to compile as many as possible in MP3 formats of these rare numbers and give it to you for uploading.
Thank you Ram, for the encouraging words,
V. Raghavendran. |

This is also another hit from the MSV TMS P Suseela combo. A melodious song catchy tune and meaningful lyrics - kasakkuma illai inikkuma will be the basic question -

Pudhaiyal has two beautiful numbers besides vinnodum mugilodum, among which "chinna chinna izhai pinni varum" is one. Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram's lyrics represent the culture of Tamil Nadu, glory of the silk saree. The tune will definitely attract you, guaranteed. There is also a therukkootthu number featuring Sivaji.

This is also a lyric oriented song from the film Ondru pattaal undu vaazhvu, sung by TMS and Jikki. There is another solo by P Suseela, sala sala raagatthilae, which is even more attractive. |

Dear friends..
We all know well 'Paalum Pazhamum' is one of the best albums of our MSV sir.
Due to the reason that all songs are superlative, two wonderful songs of P.Suseela were over-shadowed by other songs. They are...
"Indha naadagam andha medaiyil
eththanai naalamma"
and the other one is
"Thendral varum sethi varum
thirumanam pesum thoodhu varum"
the second one is not included in the movie, but we can enjoy the audio in the following link

Samudra rajakumari,
sugapushpa sugumari,
navanaagareega naari,
namo namo namaha.
You hear these lines in the voice of SPB, followed by Vani Jayaram's melodic rendition. You will forget the outside world.

Yes, this wonderful song is from "Engal Vaathiyar".
A movie in mid 80s. |

Vani Jayaram will simply take a firm seat in your heart with this song. What a tune what a raga what a composition - you can go on wondering every aspect of this song. From the film Kizhakkum Maerkkum Sandhikkindrana.

Apart from this song "Chandhira pirai paarthen", there some more good songs in Kizhakkum Merkum Sandhikindrana.
A song by Yesudoss " Oviyaththai varaindhu vaithen" and another one by SPB & Vanijayaram (I cant exactly catch the first line). |

I don't recollect if this has featured somewhere in the forum. One of the best duets of TMS and P Suseela. I do not know how many of you have heard it at all. If you listen to this song for the first time, it is taken for granted that you will not move for another 10 days at least. This song features on both sides of a 78 gramaphone record and lasted for almost 6 minutes. The best you can say from the Viswanathan-Ramamurthi duo. The lyrics will simply be superb. S A Asokan was the hero. SA Asokan-Chandrakantha was an inseparable combination as hero heroine those days. Their forte continued in Vilakketriyaval, Karthikai Deepam, etc. Manam Kanivana andha kanniyai kandaal kallum kaniyaagum, mudhal mudhalaaga aval parvai vizhundhal mullum malaraagum, aha kallum kaniyaagum, aha mullum malaraagum , thus goes the pallavi. And the tune will change to another raga and so are the beats. Suseela's humming will enthrall you. This song also needs indepth analysis.
