The program was disappointing.
There was a lot of self projection by IR (talking more about him and his brother than about MSV) as is his wont.
His observations about MSV lacked depth. He started explaining how he was shaped by MSV but did not complete this. He went on divergent tracks.
He said MSV had the advantage of having many talented singers but IR had only SPB and Janaki. What does this mean? MSV had all the advantages but IR had succeeded without having these advantages! Is this a tribute to MSV? Is this not self projection?
He could not resist the temptation of mentioning his song'sundaru neeyum' and challenging other composers whether they could compose such a song. But he hastened to add that he won't aak this question since he was not talking about mimself but about MSV.
His comments about Sridhar were in bad taste. Sridhar did not throw out MSV. MSV attended the 40th year celebration of Kadhalikka Neramillai along with Sridhar. When MSV had no bitterness about Sridhar, why should IR mention this? His claim that he threw out Sridhar was hypocritical since he had worked with Sridhar for a few films.
His comparison of Pesuvadhu Kiliya, Veedu varai Uravu and Mambazhaththu vandu and calling them as imitations was unfair and wrong. (This was a repetition of his observations made in a Dhubahai program many years back) MSV himself has mentioned these songs several times and pointed out that they were structured i the same Santham.
IR's claim that Paalirukkum was inspired by aajaare was far fetched. Why did he include mayakkum maalaip pozuthe nee po po after clarifying that this was composed by KVM and MSV had reproduced this song without any change?
His giving the proceeds of the show to MSV's family was a good gesture but MSV has not left his family in a poor state needing this kind of help.
I pity the people who paid 2000, 3000 or 5000 for watching this mediocre show.
The only saving grace was Rajini's speech. He said MSV was Isai Swami. He said he helped people like MGR, Sivaji, Sridhar, KB, TMS, PS and PBS to gain fame. MSV was like Hanuman who helped Rama but remained humble as if he was the squirrel. A well prepared speech no doubt but very true. By comparing MGR etc. with Rama, he has acknowledged their greatness even while emphasizing MSV's contribution. IR said, 'You are really super." IR should learn a few lessons from Rajini!
When I first heard the name of the program as 'enakkuLLil MSV,' I wondered whether this did not mean 'eanakuL il(laatha) MSV." Perhaps this was the real meaning of the title of this program! _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

Yes, as Mr.Vaidy and Mr.Rangaswami sirs have expressed, was such a show necessary for our Mellisai Mannar at all? Barring the only saving grace of managing to call Rajinikanth on the stage, and Rajini speaking from his heart, it was a dragging bore and injustice to the core.
Looking at more disgusting moments:
One of MM's landmark violin songs, 'Vaan Nilaa' went without the violins! A pipe (or shenai?) had simulated the violin, while there were so many there, sitting idle!
How could he link Salida's 'Aajaare' to any song such as the ones that he mentioned? MM had a way of extracting some parallels occurring in the Hindi film or other genres of music, with no reference to copying, but only to always bring in the similarities of emotions being expressed in the country through such music. When he (MM) respected such occurrences by mentioning them, it was not for misconstruing the imagery such as what we witnessed last night. It is another thing that he does not acknowledge or reveal his (IR) own work under Salilda as an instrument player, or refuses to react to questions on resemblances of his own songs/orchestrations to Salilda's famous compositions (I do not remember the year of this writeup in The Hindu on this matter).
The female singers had repeatedly dragged most of the lines in the songs that they were missing the tempo throughout the show.
He 'informed' that MM 'wrote' down notes when CRS composed along with TKR!! Most of the 'information' that he dished out were no information at all, but some boring commentary on himself.
The stage-managed usual stunt of one of his sons going on the stage to ask 'doubts' was enacted too.
The audio was not up to the mark.
Crowd, his usual groups....
An unwanted episode disturbing the harmony and name of MM... |
