Dear All,

As Mr.Parthavi suggested, we shall have atleast 100 members with each subscribing annually Rs. 1000 . We are assured of Re. 1 lakh . Alternatively, we may request for Rs. 1500 each which will result in Rs. 1.50 lakh and this figure may be sufficient enough. This should be contributed in the beginning of the year which will also yield some returns.

As regards the music troupe, cant we explore giving chance to some up coming music groups who will be very keen for an opportunity to get a break ...The said group also may have some good ,promising singers who aspire for the large stage and our annual event can be a good platform ....

Definitely we should continue to honour those great team members who were behind the success of MSV-TKR ....lets continue with this wonderful theme....

Record some conversations with MSV and may be release a video album with some fee so that it may give some inflows

dear friends

as murali suggested we will work on website redoing .

balaji / parthavi - your suggestion is good . but main issue is where is that 100 , unless each prominent member gets 5 to 10 new contributins its not working out .

if you reallystart counting we will have hardly 20 contributors this time , of course some have contributed many folds of 1000 s o we managed this time , but we cannot expect them to pay every time . so the best policy is spread the base . the broader the base , easier would be the flow .

so let us start on that front .

with regard to fund raising programmes , we will start the interaction programmes starting with MSv _+ another personality , and start collecting money .that way we can probably raise funds . we will do this once in 3 months and any thing over and above the expenses it goes to the pool .
usage of up coming troupes , we need really dedicated troupes to sing old songs , let us start exploring and see how best we can achieve before our next programme

thanks for every one's suggestions
wregds

Dear VK,

About 3 years back, we had a meeting at Mr. Ganesh's office at T.Nagar near Hindi Prachar Sabha. Mr. Ganesh said that he (we) could easily (!) enroll 300 members ('Won't there be at least 300 fans of MSV in Chennai?' was the response to the questions about how realistic the estimate was!) and could raise Rs. 3 lakh per annum. That nothing came out of these meetings is another matter.

I thought 100 was a realistic number. We can write to those who have enrolled in the website and can also prominently insert a request in our website. In my opinion, if we can't have even 100 members who would commit to an annual contribution of Rs.1000, sustaining our activities on a long term basis will be difficult. Some people may be able to contribute more.

We can discuss on the modalities and strategies during the meeting. But I think membership is a must for our site

I am reproducing the mail received from Mr. Ram Ramasubramanian. He is yet to get his authentication for writing in the forum and hence he asked me to publish his mail in the forum.

Dear Mr,Murali,

Greetings !

Please accept my heartiest congratulations to one & all in MSV Times.Com who worked really hard to make this program a reality because of the financial crunch & made it a grand success.

The efforts put in by the orchestra was shown in the way they played each and every song.

Mention must be made of the wonderful selection of songs .Please also mention my congrats to SRIDHAR"S NAVRAG orchestra.

YGM"s speech was not only witty but also showed his deep admiration for the maestro MSV.

Cheers & looking ahead to meet you all.

Ram

Another mail followed which also I am publishing

Dear Mr.Murali,

Further to my earlier mail, I would like to express my personal views after reading the mails received from the regulars who contribute to the msv times.com.

It is my personal view that it would be unrealistic & living in the past if we expect the current set of musicians irrespective to which orchestra they belong to attain the perfection, show the commitment, skill , zeal & enthusiasm , passion in attaining perfection in their performance as compared to the legends who performed for MSV during his hey days.

Comparisons with the originals are inevitable, but it should be realistic.

We cannot bring back Goverdhan,Henry Daniel, Flute Nanjappa, Mangalamurthy, Saibaba, Mandolin Raju ,Noel Grant or TKR all of whom can be termed as legends in their own right.

We have limited choice in the selection of which group we are going to shortlist & even if they play at least to 50 % of the original score it should be taken as a success.Among the lot "SRIDHARS NAVRAG" have done a better job & have to be commended for their efforts.

Further finance/ sponsorship as mentioned by most of the members is a very big constraint.Because of the limited budget we are compelled to cut down on the size of the orchestra and leave out many key instruments which will be a big disappointment to many of the fans. Audio & the choice of auditorium is also a key factor which will go a long way in improving the level of performance & satisfaction to the listeners,We have to approach professionals in getting the best sound output. This will go a long way in improving quality of the concert. The audio was extremely loud which was not required in bring the nuances of MSV"s music. We require crystal clarity & the normal light music groups have a mistaken notion that loudness brings better output. Though I was really enjoying the show, I developed a splitting headache due to the very loud audio & had to leave near the end of the programme when some lilting songs were played.

With regard to the duration & felicitation it will be interesting to know firsthand the opinions & views expressed by people who have had an opportunity to work along with MSV or observe him from very close quarters. The unsung heroes have to be honored & it will be a fitting tribute if it is done by MSV TIMES & they receive the honors from MSV itself.

Commencing the concert at 5.30 pm is ok & we have to ensure that only the beneficiaries speak about their experiences & after breaking for about 45 minutes for the speeches
the program ends at around 9.45 pm.

Request you to publish both my messages in the forum.

Thanks inadvance & regards,

Subramanian Ram

I am also publishing the reply I sent to him.

Dear Mr. Ram,
Saw your mail late. Sorry. Shall publish your mail in the forum. Your points well taken and we shall try to improve up on each aspect in future. Yes I do agree that the audio was noisy on that day. It would be of great help if msvian like us to contribute a minimum assured sum of atleast Rs. 1000/ per annum and if we have say around say 200 to 250 dedicated members would ensure us to have comfort while having the budget for the orchestra as well as the hall.

Thanks for your feed back and I hope to receive your mail in future.

Dear VK,

Let us need not feel shy in declaring our trust members contributions also this time. Since I was not actively involved in organizing this year event, yet I know the contributors list from the trust members like you Rs. 5000/, Siva Rs. 5000/, KRS Rs. 5000/, Prof Raman Rs. 10000/ , Narayanan Rs. 10000/, Srikumar Rs. 2000/ and myself Rs. 5000/.

Yesterday I was talking to my wife and during the discussion some points emerged. I feel that msvtimes may go slow but it is steady. How many websites dedicated for a Music Director have managed to hold their website for more than 3 to 4 years. Ours not only managed that but also conducting anniversary events and honor musician who took part with MSV. I think this is one of the important point which gives us the energy to carry on. We must also remember that other music director's official website is struggling to get launched. In that sense we must feel satisfied that we are able to carry this on. And due credit must be given to to the core team Ram, Vaidy, Sabesan and Ramki for some how pulling it out up to 6th anniversary. The 7th anniversary now, had been organised by the new team from the trust.

You can count on me for a minimum sum of Rs. 5000/ every year. I wish we should conduct this anniversary as long as we could. For me this is comparable to the 'Thyagaraja Aradhanai' for the 'mellisai Thyagaraja' that is MSV.

And I believe that it is the emotion in his music that binds all of us together and help us to run the anniversary events. And as we all know that the emotional content in his music keeps increasing as times goes by, I am confident that we will celebrate our 10th, 15th and even 25th anniversary.

May his music gives us the energy and strength.

Thanks,

N Y Murali

PostPosted: Tue Mar 04, 2014 3:02 pm    Post subject: FUNDS - A CONSTANT REQUIREMENT Reply with quote

Dear All,

Most of the forum members know by now that the entire conduct of our website is purely on individual's contribution than any corporate donation. Kudos to every individual who have been contributing all their mite in the smooth functioning of events for the past 7 years.

Vaarthaigal Sollum Vaathiangal though survived an unbelievable budget from what was originally estimated, yet we managed to save some money that pulled us through the following year. The real crunch started in the last 2 years I guess when all attempts fell silent. Most of the big names we approached weren't even interested in parting with anything as they were busy funding other MD's events on a very large scale where the musical output was very ordinary. This is the age of commercialism where even the worst product gets sold at a premium!!!

Some of the members who have not been able to contribute individually have also adorned the role of a "fund generator" under which I was able to generate 18K amongst people known to me this year which I wasn't able to do all these years. Like me many have done their part. The real issue is the suntenance of these donors for more years as I am not sure if we can go back to these people next year. The idea of collecting membership fee have all been worked out at the initial stage itself for which we didn't have the required response and hence it was shelved.

The only way we can generate more funds is to have a swanky website (remodel it to the present generation's taste, definitely not the music though...) and start advertising about it in the social media. Let's call for some real quality musicians to perform our Legend's music than traditionally banking on certain orchestras who are not able to deliver what we want for various reasons.

I dont know how many of you have watched MTV unplugged shows on youtube. AR Rahman & the like have done superb musicals technically where the melody completely lacked. Yet the shows were most watched. Similarly, if we can handpick some of the best instrument playing talents (youngsters preferably who will play for the given notes) and have a seasoned conductor like Shyam Joseph or V. S. Narasimhan, I am sure we will have the required impact. We also have Sampath - ace & expert sound engineer who can be roped in to manning the audio console.

The pity is that, we have no dearth for the melody content in our Legend's music and if only this can be channelised for the right audience with the right audio / video equipments / instrument players / singers, then even with a small troupe of 12-18 people, we can make wonders. Having said all this, money is required for this also. All along we have somehow projected our events to be a non-commercial one. But if we look at the present & the future economics to organise events, then we ought to become commercial sooner or later. The point is how do we become one & where do we begin and most importantly when??

Forum members, please share your thoughts......

CHEERS

MSV IS MUSIC!!!

Dear VK,

I never said that raising funds is easy. I am only emphasizing the need to put a long term arrangement in place. I recalled an arrangement suggested earlier but not tried upon in a serious way. As a small contributor, I should not be saying too much on the subject. But I feel it is possible to enroll a sizable number of contributing members by spreading the message using the power of the net. I honestly feel that we should not again find ourselves in a situation of raising funds just before the program with great difficulty through the hectic efforts of a few people.

Dear VK,
You deserve a special appreciation from me for selecting Mr. Sampath as a recipient of our award for this year. I saw the video recorded in my camera and watched his 'from the heart speech'. Completely felled by his rare information.

Plus that also led me to hear the song 'pesuvadhu kilaya'. Was bamboozed to hear the two interludes in which Mangalamurthy's accordion and the violins counter each other and create havoc. I did not count, but would have heard again and again more than 100 times only those 2 interludes leaving others by switching with the help of the timer.

After hearing for many years, today I realized that I was wrong in assuming that both the interludes were same. Though a casual hearing could make that feeling, a careful hearing will reveal that in the first interlude it is the accordion which takes the lead and the violins counter it. Whereas in the second interlude it is the violins which take the lead and the accordion counter them. In the second interlude, there is a subtle finishing touch given by Mangalamurthy in his accordion while finishing those counter melody pieces which is then followed by Flute. Of course the counter melody pieces and the flute are separated by Philips' guitar strumming.

That those two interludes are different from each other is a revelation for me. Thanks once again, but at the same time you must also take my friendly curses because it completely made my day's official work upside down. But still I managed to finish my work.
