The Carnatic raga "Charukesi" is popularised only through 'Silver screen'. The best hit "Manmada Leelaiyai" from MKT followed by "Vasanthamullai" by TMS.

But coming to Mellisai MSV has given variety, to list a few

1. Ammamma Keladi Thozhi Karuppu Panam
2. Moondru Thamizh Thondriathum Pillai o Pillai
3. Oru Marathil Kudi irukkum Enga Pappa
4. Agayathil Thottil Thnivey Thunai
5. Azhagiya Thamizh Magal Ival Rickshwkaran

and so on. My memory is stuck now. Let me continue the topic further soon.

Dear Sir,
Is the Dr.Siva song 'Malare kurinji malare' in charukesi? This is a divine melody created by our MM.

More or less it is a charukesi base. But it seems it resembles Gowri Manohari.

In private albums he never misses Charukesi. Even his song 'Kudumbam oru Kadambam' is also a charukesi base.

The other missed ones are -

1. Varacholladi - Padukappu
2. In Sivakami Aadavandal "Paatum Bharathamum Kootum Sabaidanil" - from Paatum Bharathamum.

Rest in next.

Few more songs to be added in "Charukesi" are

1. Madulai Muthukkal by P Banumathi from "THAAI PIRANDHAAL"
2. Varanum Varanum Maharani (TMS & PS) from GOWRI KALYANAM
3. Aagayathil Thottil Katti (VJ) from THNIVEY THUNAI
4. Veruidam Thedi Povalo (VJ) from SILA NERANGALIL SILA MANIDARGAL

Dear Sir,
The way our MM handles Charukesi is unique (it applies to every other raaga, of course!) as he brings out songs in the varieties like the romantic mood, mood of fear or awe, sorrow, and in the classical mould too. The examples cited is such a list with all these varieties! He does not sound repetitive or too very classical which would then have been ordinary. He sounds very natural in this raaga too!

What you have said is absolutely. Even his Kalyani based songs are noteworthy and we will not see the repetition like "Janani Janani" "Amma Endrazhikadha" and so on.

His Kalyanis are differently handled.

1. Mugathhil Mugam Paarkalam
2. Vetkamai Irukkudhadi
3. Isai kettal puvi asaindhaadum
4. Athhikaai Kaai Kaai
5. Maduraiyil Parandha Meen
6. Kannan vandhan angey
7. Paar Magaley Paar
8. Maalai Soodum Mananaal
9. Chittirai Maadam
10. Poo Manakkum Poonguzhali
11. Varuvan Vadivelan
12. Mannualgil Indru Devan
13. Indha Mandrathil Odi varum .......... and the list goes on

and also he only handled "Kundalavarali" in a very nice way in the song "Raja Vada Singakutti" from Disai Maariya Paravaigal

Other examples are : "Maname Nee Eesan" by MKT
"Solla Solla Inikudhada" by KVM

In "Thilan" - 1. Azhagan Muruganidam
2. Paalloti Valarthakili
3. Vizhiyo Urangavillai and the tricky song
4. Idhu Undan Veetu Kilidhaan

Rest in next.

Dear Vatsan,

Thank you.

Let me come to talk about Rajkumar Bharathi.

Rajkumar Bharathi was also well utilised by MM and wonderful tunes were offerred to him.

1. Chandirana Paartha from Brahmacharigal solo
2. Nilavu Vandhu Neerada from Siranjevvi with SJ
3. Kannan Sonnadu Por from Yudhha Kandam with VJ
4. Ninaivugalin Oorvalangal from Plus two (unreleased) with VJ
5. Sandana Kudam Ondru from Navagraha Nayaki
6. Aarambamaagum from Puyal Kadandha Boomi
7. Akilam from Kanney Kaniamudey
8. Thamari Ilaye Thoodhu from Thanga Kalasam

All the above were good Nos.

In Kannanuku Daasan Kannadasan - A devotional Album where he rendered the song "Gangai Karaiyinile Oru Karpaga Solai Undu"

In another Album "Venu Gaanam" he has sung two songs - One "Guruvayur" and another one (forgotten) were the best Nos.

Likewise "Jolly Abraham" was also equally utilised by MM.

1. Adiyeni Paaramma (with BSS) from Vanakathhukuria Kaadaliye
2. Asaiyulla Mappilaiku (with PS) from "Needikkumun Neeya Naana
3. Mangai Endral film name forgotten
4. Nadigai Paarkum Nadagam - Oru Nadigal Nadagam Paarkiral
5. Malairani Mundani (only humming)
6. Ennaivittu Pirindha (From SILK SILK SILK with Vani Jayaram)

and so on

Dear Sabesh,
You have proved you are the most demanded member here and we were missing you all these years. You have been unearthing very rare songs of MM.
Here are the links for some songs in your postings:
1. Kanngal Sonnadhu Por thodukka - Yudha Kandam
http://www.raaga.com/player4/?id=42807&mode=100&rand=0.8134004361927509

2. Chandiranai Patha - Brahmacharigal

3. Nilavu vandhu neeraada - Chiranjeevi
http://music.cooltoad.com/music/song.php?id=409559&PHPSESSID=d956daa6f06af70f7e49a2220c852e2b
This song was picturised on a glamor note and removed from the picture by the producers. But it now finds place in TV telecasts.

4. Sandhana kudam ondru (Navagraha Nayaki)

Dear Ragasudha

Thank you for your immediate response. Also thank you for the links provided. I am hearing the songs after nearly 20 years. I have not forgotten the tune since those memories are still green in my mind. One can never forget such wonderful tunes. As I said earlier the rare compositions of the GREAT should be spread over to the public only by organising an audio presentation programme frequently. None of the TV channels or FM radios will telecast/broadcast the songs.

You and myself only take the initiative of doing the programme. Let us now start recording the songs and arrange a programme. The singers of the songs can be called.

The first attempt may be songs from singers RAJKUMAR BHARATHI, JOLY ABRAHAM, MASTER MAGARJAN and a few unknown singers like, Rajesh, Sivaji Raja, Pushpalatha etc. who have contributed from MSV. We will sit and prepare a list. Hope my idea will reach people to hear an unimaginable melodies of the GREAT.

Regards

sabesh

Dear Mr. Sabesan,
This is an excellant idea. There are many facets of MSV's Music and each facet as to be made known to public.

Especially your idea of calling the singers to the programme and asking for their opinion is a novel idea.

However I have my own reservation about the idea of playing the Audio CD in the public gathering. You are the best judge.

There could be an alternative idea. We could start an Internet radio service from our site and have this exclusive programme with your opinions and of the singers for a particular duration which can be prepared on a regular interval and aired.

Whatever may be. I fully support you and me best wishes for the same.

Looking eagerly for further news from you in this regard,
