Dear Friends,
After sometime, we are back to the theme for a new item under the head. The innovation chosen for consideration is NON-VERBAL FORTIFICATION OF MOOD as a route to romance in songs.Quite a number of strategies pervade Shri.MSV's works. But, for ill-equipped listeners like me,technicalities are just out of reach. Still, enjoyment is of full scale, thanks to the innovator's skill.
USE OF DADA,DUDDA DA DA
dA DA dudda dA is an obvious non-lyrical insert to romance in MSV songs. He has been absolutely choosy about the strategy. He seems to have reserved it for numbers where the expression of romance comes in exuberance; but it right away captures the listener by surprise- a pleasant one at that!
OOty varai uravu number 'happy, indrumudhal happy' TMS PS
Suddenly in the charaNam phase TMS comes whooping with Dada dudda da for which PS gives a concurrence in lala lulla la. At that spot, the male voice comes in full blast and that of the female slightly in lower octave suggesting the 'lead' and the following.
Nil gavani kAdhali number 'jillendru kAtru vandhadhO' TMS PS
In this swimming pool song,
PS's 'kalloori padam solli ...' is abruptly taken over by TMS with that magic switch dadda da.At that point of time in TFM in 1967 this was a a refreshing strategy which invited the listener to enjoy more.
pattikkAdA pattaNamA number 'kEttukkOdi urumi mElam' TMS LRE
In this song, it is LRE who takes the lead for romantic exuberance over her village boy lover.
'dadda dA dudda da dA dadda da da dA' is the phrase that embraces the mesmerising 'urumi' beats to which the drum-supported 'munnOrellAm munivrgaL alla' comes in as a gentle breeze.
In MSV's repertoire for song embellishment 'dadda da' is sparingly but definingly used weapon for an assured impact; used by the lead setter and responded to by the opposite member.
Is it not a well thought out innovation? Please add your observations.

Yes Prof. You are correct. I wish to recall the song 'Indru mudhal selvamidhu'
in which there are many varieties of humming expressions. In fact it so happened that B Vasantha become a humming expert.
