Dear Friends,
Talking of innovative improvisations, two other songs 'thenAtrin karaidhanilE' and 'Chiththirai madham pourNami nEram' are special items.
Both describe the setting in moon light- the former of fading moon [thEy pirai] and the latter of 'porNami' [the full moon] though they differ in their situations on screen.
'thEnatrin karaidhanilE' portrays the plight of the comedian Nagesh in "uththaravindri uLLe vA" and 'chiththiraimAdham' in "rAman eththanai rAmanadi" is based on a lady's desire for wedlock with the hero. Ironically both are desires of wedlock. Nagesh's plight is-the aspirant girl is mentally derailed but steadfastly chasing him day in day out. All attempts by Nagesh to discard her prove futile besides enhancing the lady's desire to anchor on to him.
The innovative improvisation is as under.
"UTHTHARAVINDRI ULLE VA" is a repulsive sequence occurring at the dead of the night in the very premises of the house in subdued light. MSV has infused an element of comic fear through this nice innovation.
YES, LR E lets off a lunatic laughter at spots to enhance the possessive grip by the lady. The stomach churning impact of music comes from a violent vibration of saw [the wood-cutting 'rambam'] to perfect note. The noise is shrill but dominating in volume putting Nagesh to deepest of discomforts and that forms the comic for the audience. How MSV plans those arrangements is a literal reference for aspirants into cine music.

"RAMAN ETHTHANAI RAMANADI" sequence pertains to subdued romantic desires of a girl on a moving train. I have not seen the movie; but clearly I visualize the train from the way the flute note simulates the proverbial steam engines then on our railways. It is the gushing of steam from such an engine that right away showcases the visualization.
Yes, MSV has created the feel of steam escape from engine by

Rubbing pieces of sand paper rough surfaces to generate frictional escape of pressure. Oh, what a simulation it is!

However, he has used discretion to keep this strategy to its minimum that the effect is astounding without being an irritant. Also, the play of flute and drum beats to scale have enhanced the 'train effect' to the permissible levels. He has offered a feast on a platter to the movie makers in his days. A magnificent composer is the least I can say of MSV.

More in the days to come.

Warm regards K.Raman Madurai.
