Dear All,

There are many ways to write in Thamizh in Forums. The below method is one of the easy and straight forward methods.

Here we go:

1) Click Here to download eKalappai Software ("ekalappai20b_anjal.zip").

2) Unzip and Install the software by clicking "ekalappai20b_anjal.exe" present in the downloaded zip file.

3) Press "Alt + 2" to enable Thamizh Writing.

You can see Tauveltesoft Keyman 6.0 icon in the bottom right corner of the computer. As soon as you press "Alt + 2" you can see the icon turning into . "Alt + 1" will bring back the English Typing.

4) Come to the text editor of the Discussion Forum, either "Post Reply" or "New Topic"

5) Start typing in Thamizh ("Thanglish")

IMPORTANANT TIP: Please remember to save your typings periodically, as the session may expire after some time and you may lose your typings when you click "Submit". So before hitting "Submit" save copy all the typing "Ctrl+A" and "Ctrl+C". Open Notepad. "Ctrl+V" to paste. Save. While saving choose the "Encoding Type" as "Unicode"

Few Examples:

எம்.எஸ்.விஸ்வநாதன் - em.eS.viSvawAthan

பொன்னெழில் பூத்தது - ponnezil pUththadhu

Tips:

ஸ்-Capital "S"

ந்-w

ஃ-q

ஞ்-nj

ங்-ng

etc.

Will come up with detailed Alphabet Key Mapping soon.

தமிழில் எழுதி மகிழ்க!

Murasu Anjal should also work. But I've not tried that though.

One of the simple ways I discovered recently - to write in Thamizh:

Visit the link: http://www.jaffnalibrary.com/tools/Unicode.htm

Choose "Thanglish"

Write the english words in the top box; Corresponding Thamizh gets displayed at the bottom. Just copy paste in the forum.

It is that simple !!! Very Happy

Dear All,

Just a reminder to everyone that there is a very simple way to write Thamizh in forums. Please see the link in the above post - where you can write Thamizh online & no installation is needed. Am giving the link again here:

http://www.jaffnalibrary.com/tools/Unicode.htm

Choose "Thanglish" option and start writing Thanglish and the corresponding Thamizh appears in the bottom text box.

People request this on a frequent basis (dear Murali, you had expressed your concern that you were not able to write Thamizh).

So this post is to let people know the simple method to write in Thamizh, who are interested.

Quick tips:

ந் - w
ஃ - q
ஞ் - nj
ங் - ng

Its pretty straight forward.

I found another site which facilitates easier writing. It has been programmed intelligently to recognize words as we type. There is no need to use shift key or capital lock

http://quillpad.in/tamil/

This what I typed:

yam petra inbam peruga ivvaiyagam.
when it came to peruga, I had a choice of a couple of options and I chose peruga with the vallina 'ra'

And this what I got!

யாம் பெற்ற இன்பம் பெறுக இவ்வையகம்

நன்றி

Dear Mr.Baskar,

This link was sent to me by a friend. I shared it with the group.

Initially, it looked easier. But I find that it is it is difficult to edit. I think that the link sent by Ram is better.

I have not used quilpad much and I am not sure to what extent I can clarify your doubts.

But you are welcome to call me at 93808 74579.

Excellent Link and Description from Parthavi

http://code.google.com/p/english-to-tamil-live-typewriter/

You can type in English on the left. The Tamil fonts will appear on the right. You can just select and copy using the right click of your mouse and paste it in the form.

A few hints.

For ராம், you may type raam or rAm
For ஈ, type ii
For ஏ, type ee
For ஓ, type oo
For ஔ type au
For ற, type Ra
For ள, type La
For ங, type nga
For ங்க, type ngga or ngka
For ஞ, type nja
For ஞ்ச, type njcha
For ழ, type za
For ந, type wa
For ஃ, type q
For ஸ, type S (sa will transliterate into ச)
For ஸ்ரீ, type sri or Srii (Sri will give ஸ்ரி)

The instructions are given in the webpage itself.
You will learn some other nuances, once you start using it.

It is better to copy and paste after typing a few lines, so that you will not lose what you have typed, since you can't save anything here.
You can save by pasting the matter to a wordpad file.
