Dear Mr.Swami,
MSV is the MD for Sugamana Ragangal.
I have a doubt whether R.Sundarajan or R.C.Sakthi is the director.
IR has sung a song in the music direction of MSV for this movie.
I am not able to recollect the lines. _________________ Meendum Santhippom Viraivil...

Dear Mr. Mahesh,
This film is directed by R.Sundararajan, not R.C.Sakthi. This is the second film of MSV and R.S. The first film was Saranaalayam. It has a melodious song sung by SPB. I don't remember the lines.
I also don't remember the song sung by IR. I was not even aware of this. _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

Dear Mr.Swami,
Thanks for the confirmation.
I remember seeing "Isai: Mellisai Mannar" alone and not his full name in this movie's (Sugamana raagangal) posters.
In Saranalayam, there is one song "Ezhuthugiral oru puthu kavidhai...". But that was sung by Malaysia Vasudevan for Mohan.
Another MSV-SPB-Mohan combo is "Indha vanjimagal oru oothappu..." from Thambathyam oru sangeetham. _________________ Meendum Santhippom Viraivil...

Yes, Mr. Mahesh. 'Ezhuthigiraal oru pudhuk kavithai' was the song I had in my mind. My mention of SPB as the singer was due to a memory distortion. Now that you have mentioned the song, I can hear Malaysia Vasudevan's voice in my mind. A sweet melody, typical of MSV.
Incidentally, I remember that the first song of Malaysia Vasudevan that was released was from 'Thalaiprasavam' under MSV's composition. But I find that he keeps expressing his gratitude to Ilayaraaja, not bothering to mention MSV or Thalaiprasavam, which was literally Thalaiprasavam for his career as a playback singer. This song has also gone out of circulation and i am unable to remember the lines or tunes. _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

Thanks Mr.Mahesh for the welcome.
There was also a news that MM has sung for SPB as well as Deva a couple of years back. What are the features of these songs. The song tuned by SPB was touted as a song sung alongwith IR...
Malaysia Vasudevan was indeed handled aptly by MM for quite a few movies/occasions: I am reminded by "Thangachi sirichalley", "India naadu en veedu", and may rare numbers. The beauty of "Ezhudugiraal oru pudu kavithai" reminds us of "aval oru navarasa naatakam". The violin interludes between the different stanzas are mesmerizing. The second one especially lifts you to another heaven. The tabla, of course, is so soft that you are carried on a velvet carpet to the heaven! |

Dear Mr.SRS,
You have made a valid point about MSV's ability to retain his voice when TMS and PS (not to speak of PBS!) had lost theirs quite some time back. I think it has to do with his firm sense of commitment. The other M S (Subbulakshmi) also retained her voice in her eighties.
Yes, his voice commands admiration, authority and conviction. That perhaps was the reason why V.Kumar was emboldened to ask MSV, the reigning master at that time (even now, in our hearts), to sing for his tune, the humble master readily obliging him. In a way, he had blessed V.Kumar by "assuring" him , 'Unakkenna kuraichchal? Nee oru Raja!'
Recently, in Endrum MSV, MSV cited a newspaper report of a woman about to commit suicide by drowning herself in the sea (in Thuthukkudi) changing her mind after listening to, 'Unakkum oru kaalam undu. Poruththiru magale' through a loudspeaker. On reading this report, Kannadasan had told MSV that his lyrics, if not set to music by MSV, could not have reached the woman. Incidentally, I myself was in a sombre mood while watching this episode and these lines did lift up my spirits and I have been unconsciously playing these lines, now and then in my mind's player, in MSV's authoritative voice whenever I feel the need for pumping up enthusiasm and confidence into my mind.
people recite various hymns (slokas) for getting their desires fulfilled/ grievances redressed. It has been my strong belief since several years that ladies having difficulty in getting their marriages fixed, should recite or listen to the following lines from 'Oorengum maappillai oorvalam' from Shanthi.
Unakkena oruvan ulagaththil iruppaan
orunaalvaruvaan unaiththedi.....
Kulamaadhar yaarum thaniyaaga vazhum
vidhi endrum illai maravathe
vidhi endrum illai maravaathe
(the last line is repeated in the song by way of assertion!)
People may laugh at me for saying this, But I have a firm belief in my assertion.
Kannadasan, like Bharathi is a Satya Kavi. His Satya Vaakku is energized by MSV's music. This is bound to produce results. _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)
