KAADHALIKKA NERAMILLAI - VI
Dear friends,
K N is simultaneously a place for entertainment and inquisitive plot where lot of questions can be raised. Perhaps one major question is Who is the real hero? -- Muthuraman?, Nagesh ? Balaiah? or any other character? May be by convention many would settle for Muthuraman as he fits all basic definitions of a hero. Being a comic subject Nagesh would also fill the slot. But if one goes by the weight of the character or the rallying point around whom the story is woven does not Balaiah fit the slot? In short everyone can be conceived of as the hero, except the real support artistes VSR , Radhabai, Veerasamy and Baskar.
If we dispassionately analyse every character a few fundamental questions emerge.
Muthuraman is always in disguise of an old man even in the close proximity of his father still keeping an artificial profile.
Ravichandran - a job-lost youngster whose life heavily hinges on the menouvres of Muthuraman
Kanchana and Rajasree who need to wait patiently for parental approval of their love adventure.
Sachu not too sure of her future in the filmdom yet to be consolidated by Nagesh.
Nagesh though ambitious of becoming a movie Director , has nothing of his own leaning on his father's resources.
Balaiah although rich does not have the acumen of judging people for their worthiness.
VS Raghavan comes to an unfamiliar territory of farm estates , hoping to make headway in that area.
Parents of Sachu and Ravichandran anticipate , good to happen to their children with just bo idea of the ground reality of the situations in their personal ambience.
So to say , if each character thinks of self the whole plot would just be bundle of tensions and hypertensions.
But the screen play has been nicely cast showing only the interactions and reactions to situations. Even as Ravichandran is deprived of his office work as assistant manager, he does not launch violence; instead he lodges a protest that leads his proximity to Rajasree. With none being sure of the final outcome, the screenplay has taken care to portray only public interactions and dispositions . conveniently refraining from analyzing the inner emotions and plans of personal life.
Therefore the earlier criticism that 'there is no story in K N' automatically vapourizes because the treatment is highly focussed to pure interactions and not on any introspection. Therefore, it resolves all questions as it straight away keeps of melodrama which is preferred domain in TF industry
To Continue
Warm regards Prof.K.RAMAN MADURAI.
