VENNIRA AADAI -- V LYRICS
Dear friends,
Vennira aadai , like many other movies from the house of Chitraalaya, genuinely boasted of excellent lyrics and easily these were feathers on Kannadasan's cap. Often I get drowned in inconsolable deprivation as I see that we have lost him forever. Pardon my nostalgia , as I have to draw references to revere this great poet of our times who made simplicity and respectability as the two dimensions of his songs. I quickly hasten to add that these were but just the key facets of his multidimensional lyrics.
Look at the range of songs that he has provided in this single movie. Effortlessly his lyric enshrines the soul of the situation while words - simple words spin out the emotions in a flurry without violating the framework that Kannadasan sets for his verbal compositions. Absolutely fabulous would be an understatement as any phraseology can not match his inimitable grandeur.
The list of songs in V A runs thus:

CHITHTHIRAMAE SOLLADI [PBS SJ]
How cryptically Kavi Arasu portrays the emotional bondage between the Doctor Hero and the Lady of his Love. In this the opening sequence Kannadasan and CVS have erected a pedestal - a pedestal of esteem for the hero to stay on even under provocations of proximity to a girl for whom he is a mentor.

ORUVAN KAADHALAN [ PBS PS]
The only other song to remind us of the relationship between the doctor- hero and his lady love.
[ThoLukku thoL kanda sugam koora
arai thookkathil irundhaar manamaara] -a poetic description of the mood of lovers rubbing shoulders to a point of mental intoxication.

NEE ENBADHENNA NAAN ENBADHENNA [ L R E]
A stormy lyric that liberally raises posers that can not have comfortable neutral answers without making compromises here and there.
"Naam yaarum yaarum sondham? Naam yaarai eNNI vandhom
Oru maeni kondu vandhom , Ini gnaanam kondu selvom"
The real crux of human life in 4 pieces of lines. The entire song deserves a detailed investigation and GOD willing, I may try it one day. This is one song where MSV TKR have excelled in orchestration in this movie. This particlar sequence brought to the fore all skills of acting, Dancing, Singing, Orchestration, Choreography, fashion designing, Cinematography, Art Direction and the mastery in Direction.

ALLIPPANDHAL KALGAL EDUTHTHU [ L R E, M S Raju ]
Though a comic number , it too had lot of philosophy behind as it narrates the imaginary domains of "floating' by those who are under the grip of love in the cinematic context. Another brisk song.

AMMAMMA KAATRU VANDHU [ PS]
The song , if critically looked at shows that the derailed girl is back on the rails of normalcy. "An NaLil en nALun illai indha eNNam" leads us to note that she is able to come under the influence of natural instincts indicating that from a vegetable state she is on to normalcy. This is another important instance for us to appreciate KaNNadasn who does not miss an occasion to carry the story into his lyric. Marvellous indeed!

ENNA ENNA VAARTHTHAIGALO [PS]
Another movie-driving lyric where the affected girl reaches the fringes of mental stability,as shown by articulate play of expressions.
"Nilavae unnai arivaen Angay naeray ore naaL varuvaen
Malarndhaal angu malarvaen .illai pani pol naanum maraivaen"
Cryptically expressed, as to be understood by the doctor, but the intended recipient has no such inklings whatsoever, hence a business-like playing on the piano by the hero [MSV's hands are there in this song in every sense of the term.]

KANNAN ENNUM MANNAN PAERAI SOLLA SOLLA [ PS]
Though a solo song, PS has come out in full blast pumping life into the heroine's desires of marrying the doctor. A beautifully embellished song where flute, Drums and Bango have blended into a beauty. By repeated rendering of Pallavi with subtle variations in the interludes a rich diet is served to us by this song.
"Aasai nenjai sollaponaal achcham achcham
Abrum inrum adhuthaan nenjil Micham Michcham"
How nicely the ground situation is suggested.

NEERAADUM KANGAL INGAY
This song would certainly have added to the movie had it not been cut, for, the very audio has been well received. This " in absentia" song has the history of replacing "NENJATHILAE NEE NAETRU VANDHAI" originally made for V A. Ironically the replacer was also discarded by CVS. But in SHAANTHI the same song turned out to be a super hit.

Thus in V A, KaNNadasan has provided a goldmine of songs, each of which has a dimension by adding to the mood while mobilising the movie itself.

KAVIGNARAI MARAKKA MUDIYUMA , MANAMUM MAANAMUM ULLAVARAI?

WARM REGARDS Prof.K.Raman Madurai
