Dear Sriram Kannan,

The next I presume it’s the evergreen BARATHI KANNAMMA , the song which made me a MSV devotee . It was during this stage that I became his Fan. Such a fascinating prelude, interlude and a volley of violin postlude.
I just cant wait any longer. Pls give a Christmas gift to us !

Cheers

EMPEROR has always made a feast to our auditory senses when it comes to unusual situations, and KB is no less in creating such situations. The combination has struck again, this time for a drugged lady. EMPEROR has been (and still is) the master in perceiving the situation, and bringing them alive with His immortal, divine music. Drunken situations seems to be one of his favourites, with his mastery at orchestration. Though the situation seems to be the same in almost every song, EMPEROR has made each of them unique with his wonderful tunes and mindblowing orchestration. Here is a list of few of His masterpieces(other than "ஆனந்தத் தாண்டவமோ") in drunken situations:

1) Javaadhu Medaiyittu (Panathottam) - excellent duet of TMS-PS. Guitar adds beauty to the song.
2) Naan Uyara Uyara Pogiren (Naan Aanaittaal) - another TMS-PS duet. Just hear the bongos.
3) Sorgathai Theduvom (Thedi vantha Maapillai) - TMS with Tabla and Dholak, simply superb.
4) Silar Kudipathu Pole Nadippaar (Sange Muzhangu) - TMS and LRE's club number. Thavil and Mridangam joins Western here.
5) Mounam Kalaikirathu Mayakkam Varukirathu (Ennai Pol Oruvan) - The prelude itself speaks!!!
6) Sollathey Yaarum Kettaal (Sorgam) - entirely different composition, TMS, Sivaji and EMPEROR in another competition!
7) Ammamma Aasai Pogum Vegam (Kuppathu Raja) - VJ and Trumpet!!! Unforgettable.
8 ) Vethalaya Pottendi (Billa) - Tabla in unison with Thavil and Nadaswaram, both handled in a great manner!
9) Naalai Muthal Kudikka Maatten (Needhi) - Who else other than TMS and Tabla?
10) Thaagathukku Thanni Kudichen (Neelakadalin Orathil) - Dual Treat!!! Hearing both to EMPEROR and His music.

Chandru's love has turned out to be despair, everything badly out of shape and unclear as a fog. Still in the quest of Sona, he visits a cabaret club along with friends and finds his girl in limelight as a dancer. Dumbstruck, he cries out but soon quieted and taken to room by his friends. Neither Sona is happy too, she is soon encountered by a stranger after the show and asked about a guitar. Though Sona fights with her innocence, she is injected by a drug. With the drug taking over the senses, she somehow manages to escape the hotel and roams around the streets when Chandru finds her. Enranged already, he is much more irritated by her attitude drawing attention from the crowd. Poor Fella!!!

EMPEROR brings one of His favorite singers, only singer capable of such a song and composition. LRE has been given only two chances out of fourteen, and they have their places in her and our favorites. The queen of jazz is still young in her bewitching voice.

The opening trumpet itself is enough to boast our EMPEROR's glory. The slow raising of the instrument in the lines of pallavi, expressing the flow of thoughts towards ecstasy is amazing. LRE begins now,

Mridangam backs LRE when she raises slowly, and guitar follows the pallavi in a plausive way.

ஆண்டவனார் ஆடுகின்றார் காலங்களெல்லாம் guitar following again with mridangam.

Guitar repeats the line along with mridangam, and with a quick raising of the guitar LRE begins the first charanam,

Mridangam and bongos goes hand in hand in the lines of charnam, with bongos dominating at the first two lines and mridangam in the last two. The charanam takes a different turn here, Sona goes on a chant like the hippie style with mridangam and guitar supporting,

bongos at the background of the chant, while mridangam gives the opening (EMPEROR has used the similar style before in "Radha Kaadhal Varatha" of "Naan Avan Illai", where the Krishna chants would be in a western background like the hippie style, whereas the song is classical, and the transition between them is extraordinary. Another masterpiece!!!). Bongos finish the charanam, with LRE coming back to the pallavi.

EMPEROR has compensated for the first interlude in the next with His unique orchestration. Guitar opens up, picked by the ensemble of violins repeating patterns alternated by trumpets. Flute follows them and joins us to the next charanam.

The lines are backed by guitar and bongos, but we also hear the layer of mridangam at the end of every word uttered. Splendid!!! LRE continues,

Then comes the chant, with the quickened mridangam and guitar.

The next interlude is opened by the guitar raising slowly in steps, followed by violins that raise up graduall reaching the peak, trumpet taking from there and going on a skate, extending at the end joining LRE,

, the chant following.

The song ends with the guitar and bongos repeating the lines of pallavi. Another diamond in the crown of our EMPEROR!!!

Looking back at NI quite after sometime. Been busy lately with work, and collecting songs (and movies). A good collection, with some rare good songs and BGMs. Is there a way how can I upload in this site ? Though could not resist writing about a lot of songs heard recently, FCF (first come first!!!), NI has its long pending priority. So, starting again....

After his frustrated encounter with Sona in the streets of Singapore, Chandru is soon attacked by a group of people only to be saved by Sona and his hilarious doctor father, Poornam Viswanathan. While the bet for Deepak's finger and the Toyota car goes on, Sona reveals her darker past to Chandru - an innocent traveller used by a drug chain and blackmailed. It was a part of their plan to put a drugs packet in a guitar of the "Yours Lovingly" group, which introduced Sona to Chandru at the hotel for the first time. The guitar could not make up to the tour, and Sona mistaken by their blackmailers that she has sold it somewhere. Chandru is moved by the story, and feels happy that the story has "ended well". (However, it is Rajni and PV who scores in the scene!!!)

The story has a surprise, when Deepak finds a guy searching their hotel room in their absence. (He is shown watching Sona at various occassions, and mentioned by Sona as Vicky, their ex-driver and then a member of the gang). The music troop's bodyguard takes the charge of "dealing" the visitor.

The song is hardly a minute, with only 3 lines of lyrics, but the orchestration background is bombastic. A fusion again, for a fight sequence, this time with Guitar, drums, mridangam and jalra. It only makes us wonder how the EMPEROR has perceived it, and this thought is not new anymore for His fans.

The fast guitar followed by a similar pace of drums opens the song, with the chorus "Hoo Haa" in between, repeating. SPB begins, but with mridangam,

The lyrics followed is just the fighting sounds, with the mridangam background, and when the line ends, mridangam in raised beats, to portray the enormity of the fighting situation.

இது ORCHESTRA PROGRAM..... இது ORCHESTRA PROGRAM....., the grand finale by mridangam, joined with drums.

Deepak finishes the "orchestra" and rewards his visitor by a "Sirasaasanam" (his style of punishment throughout the movie, later used on his friends as well), well explained in the following lines, with guitar and jalra in the mridangam background.

Sriram,

I think by 1979, MSV had that enterprising, ever cheerful Sivamani in his fold. The drum roars in delight for what actually is a funny theme song ! MSV signature will be present during the charanam when he quickly switches over to Mridangam. Believe me, this song was equally popular as Namma ooru singari . I have seen fans applauding heavily in theatre when this is played. Ooooops. 27 long years have passed by now so fast !
