It is a normal occurrence in Tamil movies that, if a movie goes hit, one of its songs would be a master blaster hit, and would be hovering everywhere. But, the movie would have many more good songs, that are at par to their superior. Here is another example of such a song.. "Silar Kudipathu Poley Nadippaar" from Sangey Muzhangu.. A MGR-MSV combination.. and a TMS-LRE "Peppy" duo.. Though "Naalu Peruku Nandri" grabbed the crown, this song holds in itself more mesmerizers, that would keep our toes tapping to the rhtym.
The song sequence stars MGR and Helen (Hindi actress, acted(danced) in few Tamil Movies, mostly bar/club sequences). This is another bar song as well, both the characters, drinking and dancing, feasting the audience, but the lyrics would strike hard at one's thought about the consequences of drinking. A "Thatthuva Paadal" in a more relaxed way.
Our MD grabs attention at the very beginning of the song, with an opening sequence that lasts about 43 seconds, with a wonderful orchestration of violin, trumpet, guitar with the bangos keeping up the tempo throughout the opening, and the song. But the best part to be noted in the pallavi is the slight interlude of the "thavil" after every lyric gets over, that makes us wonder how the king thought about it and brought into action. Simply superb!!!
Mellisai Mannar is at his greatest heights, while working upon the interludes that precede charanams, that would keep the song moving in the gradual pace, never leaving a single gap or a fall in the tempo. Here too, he takes us through another mystic journey, making us note every bit of the tune that flows like a river and finally blends with the start of the lyric in charanam.
In the charanam, he again proves his mastery, by introducing aalapanaas followed by the lyric going in a similar move, for a very short period of time, but handled very excellently, using them in the casual way like drunken do ("blabbering", if am right), accompanied by the striding movement of mridangam and morsing.
Awesome Work!!!! HATS OFF TO OUR EMPEROR OF MUSIC!!! |

Dear RK(Ragavan Kannan)
It is indeed an amazing piece of work from our Master Creator !!! The use of Thavil for the club songs seems to be passionate for our Master.... (How can we forget "Adhisaya Ulagam.." from Gowravam !!! ) Brass section in the ludes , melody in the charanam along with the Flute fillings.... simply awesome...
"Madhuvukku Yedhu avasiyam...Andha mayakathil Ellam Avasaram..(A melody touch with the Flute filling )
Madhuvil Vizhundhavar Vaarthyayai, Maru Naal Ketpathu Avasiyam "
Then comes the unexpected swaras...Ga..Ga Ma Ma Dha Pa Ni......goes on to " Avar Ivar Yenum Mozhi Avan Ivan Yena Varumey.." that ends with traditional Mridangam along with Morsing....!!!
Again the Charanam continues to end with...
" Nallavanum Theeyavaney Koppai Yendhum Podhu....."
Thanks RK for reminding this song...
Another great club song of Helen is "Ninaithaley Inikkum Sugamey..." from Billa , the Tamil equivalent of "Deewana Pyar Ka Deewana..." from Don...
