Dear Rajesh and VK,
You both shared a great observation. P.Susheela for Lullabies. That too for MSV! It is a mind-blowing combo! _________________ Ramkumar |

hi jeev
thanks fr correcting me on neeradum azhagellam - probably i mistook , as it had Msv touch ( not a strange thing , as both SG / MGR could have msv influence .)
i am sure that u must be great fan of PS , in addition to MSV'S
so u may know , is there not a song in oo su vaa - if i remember its picturised as manjula singing that song ,In bath tub
or am i mixing oo su vaa and idhaya veenai - ( both apparently the same pair )
u have excellent list of Ps - thanks a ton .probably i should spend ,my time one day , to compile all our list into one , so its all in piece .
ram -- thanks fr yr welcome note .
we owe our Master a LOT
i am proud to be part of this group. i want to contribute whatever is possible , towards singing glory of MR Genius ,
and Your work is beyond any word of appreciation
cheers

|

Dear friends,
P.Susheela has had a glorious career singing for ever so many MDs as early as from KANAVANAE KANN KANDA DEIVAM.Any adjective or superlative would serve a very limited purpose in describing this singer. She has lent so much life to songs of every category be it devotional, lullaby. passion and even club songs. Some 2 numbers come to my mind. NAAN UYARA UYARA POGIRAEN -[withTMS] Naan aanayittal, JAVVADHU MAEDAI ITTU - Pana thottam. These are items generally allotted to singers like Jamuna rani or LR Eswari. But MSV has had them sung by PS ,TMS. She did both marvellously well and all TF MDs did not succumb to the tendency of "labelling" her as a clubsong singer. Only rarely has she been brought to that domain. [Why I say so is, based on what happened to MS Rajeswari -a branded singer for child voice. On a different occasion I shall trace the event.]
To have a glimpse of P.Susheela's calibre, we can see that except for P.Banumathy, every other TF Heroine has had the song back-up of Susheela till recently. One may ascribe it to the favourable star alignment in her zodiac. But, to say so will be a cruel denial of our acknowledging her PROWESS to match the particular artiste for a given song. It is only when PS sings a song that, we are able to happily accept it from the very actress on the screen and seldom PS reveals herself. There are any number of female singers, but only one SUSHEELA WHO PERFECTLY MATCHES the screen character in every syllable. We may call it talent or gift and any encomium to this great singer is just inadequate. Look at those songs she rendered for Nadigaiyar Thilakam Savitri. All are gems of varied hues and beauty. This particular number from KSG's
Kai kodutha deivam [ Kulanga kulanga sirikkum sirippil ival papa] is a very good item portraying the whole attributes of Savitri in that movie. In fact all MDs have unanimous appreciation and on occasions even Lata Mangeshkar is said to have wondered at P Susheela's ability.

madhuraman,
that was a brilliant post
yes PS has sung all varieties and for all MD's
Even PBanumathy was impressed with PS's voice and she used her in the films for which she did music (in telugu)
PS is a class and Latha & Asha are fans of PS |

Kavignar Vairamuthu writes in his book, "INTHA KULATHIL(Pond) KAL ERINTHAVARGAL":
When I was a young kid in my native place, I used to think;
the best book in the world is 'Isaap stories'
the best river in the world is 'Vaigai'
the best toffee in the world is 'kadalai mittai'
the most beautiful woman in the world is 'my second standard teacher'
the richest person in the world is 'theatre owner in my village'
the sweetest voice is 'the voice of the singer P.Susheela'
All my childhood calculations went wrong when years passed by, excepting the one, P. Susheela.
Reading these lines in his Tamil style is very interesting.
Vairamuthu finishes the article about P. Susheela in a very emotional tone by saying,
"Do we need to ask only the convicts about their last wish, before they die? Ask poets too. If some one tells me that death has come closer to me I would say,
Oru Susheelavin padalai olikkavittu vittu
kathavai osai illamal saathivittu
veliyerungal -
Naan saavatharkkul
innum orumurai vaazhavendum".
