Dear Friends,
Talking of Club songs Two things stand out apart from MSV, they are LR ESWARI and the "Kalaikoil" song 'varavendum' which has set the standards for 'jazz' pattern for such songs. Thanks for the opportunity.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman [camp Hyderabad]. _________________ Prof. K. Raman

How can we forget "Paartha Gnyabagam Illayo", one of the early days and most unforgettable club songs?
Another most melodious & wonderful club dance number of the Master is "Paavai Paavaithan, Asai Asaithan" from "Enga Mama".
Both the above are sung by PS.
And here are few more excellent numbers, all involving LRE -
"Adada Enna Azhagu" (LRE - Nee)
"Ithu Ver Ulagam Thani Ulagam" (TMS-LRE - Nichaya Thamboolam)
"Ninaithen Ennai Azhaithen Unnai" (LRE - Thangai)
"Uravinil 50-50, Uthattinil 50-50" (LRE - Galatta Kalayanam)
"Sollathey Sollathey Uraarkku Sollathey" (LRE - En Magan)
"Love is fine Darling when you are mine" (Ajit Singh-LRE - Thavapputhalvan)
"Sorgam Pakkathil" (TMS-LRE - Enga Mama)
"Sugam Ethiley Idayathilaa" (TMS-PBS-LRE - Parakkum Paavai)
Cheers!

Another golden number of the MSV-LRE combo that I missed out is -
"Kangalukkenna Kaavalillayo" from "Nil Gavani Kaathali".
This song was used to be played by the Master as the opening number (as Instrumental) in his stage programmes in the late 60s.
Cheers!

Dear Murali,
I have mentioned "Paavai Paavaithan" in my posting. I think it missed your attention.

Dear Mr. Shankar,
I agree with your view that whenever she had got a chance, PS matched LRE in 'LRE Brand' songs. 'Indru vandha inba mayakkam' is definitely a classic example. Another example is 'paavai paavaithaan' from Enga Mama. (about which Mr.Murali has written already) In Endrum MSV, the compere asked MSV why he chose PS for 'Thedinen Vanthathu' while LRE should have been the natural choice for such songs. MSV had earlier narrated how he composed a tune for this song which he had to change in the last minute because Director Sridhar wanted more vibration (thullal) in this song. MSV also sang the original tune which was classical befitting a rendering by PS. Since he had already asked PS to be present for the recording, he could not send her back and bring in LRE. That way PS got a chance to sing 'Thedinen Vandhadhu,' a typical LRE number and excelled in singing it. I think that PS could have sung 'Pattaththu Raani' also with equal effect but with a difference in style. _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

Dear Shankar,
Though L.R. Easwari was specialised by TF Music Directors as a club dance singer, P. Susila did not lag behind. There are many songs of the same concept sung by her which stood exemplary. In fact, as far as this particular song is concerned, "Indru vandha inba mayakkam", nobody would have matched Susila, incl. L.R.Easwari. Mellisai Mannar here too proved that he could make any singer sing any type of song. More so, because the actor in that particular scene was Jaikumari, who was mostly donning vamp roles and has many songs sung by L.R.Easwari to her credit in the films danced by her, thus people used to think of L.R.Easwari on seeing Jaikumari, Jothilakshmi, Vijayalalitha, Vijayashri, etc. on the screen. But MSV broke that convention and made Susila sing this song which was not only a hit but also got award for Susila.
And there are few more such songs sung by Susila. One such is the song from the film "Thottu Paarungal, Jodi Poovai Pola Kannangal" from the film, Kuzandhaikkaaga, wherein Padmini was the actor. This song was also a great composition. Similarly KV Mahadevan has also given such songs to Susila, e.g. Ulagam Pollaadha Ulagam, Evarum thodadha Paruvam, Vivaram Sollaamal Puriyum..." in the film Anaadhai Aanandhan, which is also a composition meant to self-proclamation of the beauty of a girl.
Susila is simply great.
