SPB's 'Ennodu Pattu padungal' EPISODE ON 6-09-08 8pm [Jaya TV] provided some moments of delight to the admirers of MSV.The chief guest was Kavignar Poovai Senguttuvan. One of the competing pairs sang the number 'Pani Illadha Markazhiyaa?' SPB made certain observations on how several embellishments were in that number.Another pair presented the song "Aadaaludan paadalai kaettu" from Kudi irundha koil. SPB observed the delights of 'open' singing by TMS and he advised youngsters to cultivate such habits of clear pronunciation, open singing and staying firmly on 'sruthi' and said this song is the FIRST Bhangra style item composed in Tamil. Also, SPB recalled that in the same film, there is another bumber "Un vizhium en vaLum sandhiththaal" and added " I was reccording for the Telugu version of this song. Seeing that, Mr.MGR gave me the chance to sing 1000 nilvae vaa" indicating how he managed the WIN to MGR's favour. Speaking on MSV, Kavignar Senguttuvan, said MSV was a great composer and the Kavignar was seeking chances through MSV. On an occasion for Saravana Films of G.N.Velumani, MSV had called Poovai Senguttuvan and asked if he had brought any song. Poovai.S said 'yes' and gave the song 'Thiruppugazhai paada paada'. On seeing the very lyric, MSV right away gave signal to Tabla artiste Hanumanthu and asked him to play Tabla and composed the tune at the same time in front of GN V , Director K.Sankar and others. Also, the kavicnar recalled that on many occasions, MSV had said to Senguttuvan "You give the lyric I will set the tune". Spontaneous prowess of MSV was highlighted by Poovai Senguttuvan whom MSV addresses as "Vadhyaray". I post these here with the idea that prople who have not had the opportunity of living through MSV songs may just note the esteem that MSV commands among his professional colleagues.
