A Handful of Piano Picks - Part 18

An Ensemble of Jazz Rhythms (Part - 1)

Dear Ram

'Thottukkattavaa .. Melai naattu sangeethathai thottukkaattavaa" -

Analysis of this song is great ! Though I enjoyed the song right from the day I saw the movie in early seventies, during my college days, standing in 31 paise counter to get ticket in a theatre in Tirunvelveli, I could understand its technical dimensions only after reading your writing !

Your "MSV's JAZZ collection" should become undoubtfully a clear chapter
in the Book we plan to come out with. ( Professor to note pls)

Keep it up and continue your mission tirelessly.

Dad/Ramki

I have this song in audio cassette.
I enjoy this song very much.
But song-ku pinnala ivlo vishayam irukunnu ippo than theriyuthu.

Thedivandha Mappillai... Aahaa, it has some beautiful compositions!

Manikka theril maragatha kalasam.... I am very fond of this duet.

Jadhi ley he will arrest you forever. What a flow!

Tempo helps to set the mood & make you feel the composition & poetry. Shri.MSV is the EXPERT with different strategies of tempo & lures the listener with repetition!

Thangapathakkathin meley..... OUTSTANDING composition from the same movie.

JJ is always GORGEOUS! Smile

I will return with the musical to enjoy your write up.

Vinatha.

Indeed its MGR ( in maaru vesham Laughing ) with JJ . Looks like he is imitating Charlie Chaplin ! and JJ just couldnt control the temptation , involuntarily shakes her legs ! The prelude notes remind me of the prelude to Paal thamiz paal . Beautiful pick Ram. Ofcourse, it was MSV who brought Jass concept to TFM . God ! listening to the song after so so many years !

Dear Professor, we should earmark Ram's coverage on Piano series while drafting the book on Mellisai Mannar. Very Happy

TVM, Manikka theril maragadha kalasam ....Vow , what a song ! Shocked

DEAR Mr. RAM
INDEED YOU ARTICLE ABOUT THIS SONG THOTTU KATTAVA WAS EXTRAORDINARY. I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH ON MSV COMPOSTION STYLE. IT SEEMS THAT HE HAS BEEN DOING THIS STYLE FROM 1960S. IF IT IS THEDI VANDHA MAPPILLAI MEANS WE ONLY LOOK FOR THE SONGS MANNIKKA THERIL OR VETRI MEEDHU. SO SOME HOW I HAVE MISSED THIS SONG. LIKE THIS THERE ARE LOT OF SONGS FOR WHICH HE HAS COMPOSED OPENING BGM. EXAMPLE UNNAI ONDRU KETPEN. I POSTED AN ARTICLE ABOUT THIS. THERE ARE OTHER OPENING BGMS

ENNA ENNA VARTHAKALOO
KANNI VENDUMA KAVITHAI VENDUMA.
NINAITHADHAI NADATHIYE MUDIPPAN NAAN NAAN

YESTERDAY THIS SONG WAS PLAYED BY MSV DURING THE PROG "ENDRUM MSV' IN MEGA TV. I COULD NOT RESISIT. AS SOON AS THE PRG WAS OVER I TRIED TO PLAY IN MY KEYBOARD.

I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WESTERN STYLE EXCEPT LITTLE BIT ABOUT CHORDS. YOUR INFO IN THIS ARTICLE ARE HIGHLY EDUCATIVE FOR ME. BY THE WAY WHAT IS STYLE OF THE OPENING BGM FOR THE ABOVE SONGS I HAVE MENTIONED.

I HAVE MADE POSTING ABOUT MSV COMPOSING STYLE IN 4 PARTS. IF TIME PERMITS READ THIS AND TELL YOUR OPINION. I WANTED TO PREPARE A RESEARCH ON HIS COMPOSING STYLE.

REGARDS

N Y MURALI
