Dear Friends,
Here in I try to present another pair of songs that are quite contrasting within a common ambit of Tamil- English combination appearing in different movies . Both are powerful products of MM. They are from
THAVAPPUDHALVAN and SOORYAKANTHI, INVOLVEDIFERENT THEMES AND SINGERS.
THAVAPPUDHALVAN song was by AJEET SINGH and LR ESWARI
SOORYAKANTHI SONG BY SPB and JAYALALITHA. BOTH THE SONGS DIFFER IN THE MOOD AND CONCEPT.
TP song has been by RANDOR GUY and VALEE[?] while the SK song was by Kannadasan .The numberin TP is a grand club style item while the one in SK is a mellowed rhythm though sung in a publc competition. Leaving aside these features, the rendering by Ajeet singh was of a top order while LRE lavishly displayed her articulate singing of lines that connote different meanings in a contrastingly laid lyric. Example
"IDHUVARAI AANGALAI THOTTADHILLAI
pillai irandukku mael nan petradhillai,"
MUZHUVADHUM THURANDHA GNANI UNDU
andha varisayil naanum ... suggesting the loss of dress as 'thurandha' and the two singers have taken different forms of domination and MSV has carved out brilliant embellishments keeping the tempo.
The song from SK has only short syllable English interjects by Jayalalitha who "displays" an affection to her husband who is actually languishing with in as a neglected male by a female chauvunistic by his own imagination. This song carries the spiit of the movie. As ever MSV has come a full scale with niceties that pervade this number. MSV is a library where one has to kinow what to look for from where.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman Navi Mumbai

Dear Mr.Raman,
Excellent songs.
Both songs are unusual in the sense, that only our MM can give such type of songs.
There are some more luvly songs in these movies
TP
Isai kettal puvi asainthadum...
Kinkini kinkini ena varum madha kovil maniyosai...
SK
Oh meri dirooba ... (TMS and Jayalalitha)
Paramasivan kazhuthil...
Theriyadho nokku... (I think Manorama)
