(Still I am in confusion, whether it is 'vaazthu' or 'watch')

Awesome Saradha Madam!!!

I was thinking to write about this song sometime this week, but it is good that you took the lead.

It is possible only for our EMPEROR to make sudden changes in mood, without any lapse in the music. In this song, only the laughter and claps of children takes the time to transform the happy, energetic drum beats and piano to the slow, sad violins. The tune for the following charanams would be totally different from then. A master stroke!!!

Another similar examples are "Therethu Silayethu Theivamethu" from "Paasam", "Ezhu Kadal Naattil Oru Raani Irunthaal" from "Sangili", where the tune changes from sadness to joy in the next charanam. Here also, only violins make the difference.

Same confusion for me too, about "Vaazhthu" or "Watchu" Laughing Any known people, let us know.

Lovely post dear Saradhaji . As sweet as ever . U are right. This movie is full of fantastic songs.. You have done a nice analysis of the songs & also the movie as well. Great .
Its WATCH only. U will realize it if you re-run the earlier wordings as Christmas Thatha gives a present to each kid for his/her achievement. Hence its Watch only .

The best part as you rightly pointed out was after Nadigar Thilagam slips a bit . MSV slows down the song with a sequence of violin & TMS also equal to the challenge

Tears will roll by spontaneously on TMS's very emotional voice !

MSV gives his punch after the words CHICKLET pocket parisu

Beautiful writing Saradha madam,

You have expalined the situation and full lyric of the song 'kinkini kinkini ena' from Dhavaputhalvan very nicely and emotionally. As Balaji sir said, the slip of Shivaji sir is a turning point of the song from then it enters to the pathos mood. As you said MSV sir, TMS sir and Shivaji sir change the mood completely within seconds. Wonderful.

When I wa reading this analysis, my mind pushed me another song of more or less similar situation ' Naan sirikkiren sirikiren sirippu valle' another master piece from the same group (Kannadasan, MSV, TMS & Shivaji) from Rajapart Rangadurai.

Can you please analyse that too, with your fantastic Tamil notations..?.

Dear Balaji, Ramesh, Sriram & Irene...

Thanks for all of your (encouragable) comments.

Irene,

I will try to write about the song you mentioned (sirikire...sirikiren...) soon.

Dear Saradha

great write up, one of my favorite songs. I sang that in my school light music competition in Salem at that time, I must confess I sang that as Noorjahanukku Watch instead of vazthu. there is also a third stanza in the song, I don't know how to do the tamil font but great words esp the last one"adithal vandhu thazivum anbu annai ullam vendum", a nice way for Sivaji to acknowledge his mother's tears for him.

Sound of a bell chiming at the beginning is a classic MSV touch. I always wondered how MSV excelled in bringing the nice Christian touch with a Western beat in these songs, "Devane Ennai Parungal" is another.

I got 2nd prize for this rendition. MSV rocks!
