Yuvan Shankar Raja was thrilled and excited to meet the Legend MSV accidentally, while both were for a walk in Besant Nagar beach, Chennai. Yuvan conveyed his respects to MSV by touching his feet!

MSV had mentioned a couple of numbers that he liked in Yuvan's composition. Elated Yuvan, dialled to his dad, Illayaraja over his mobile phone and handed over to MSV. MSV, who was in a 'lighter' mood mimicked his voice and addressed himself as a fan of Illayaraja, while starting his conversation. "Naan Unga Rasigan Pesaren" was MSV's statement to Raja. Raja, who did not expect a call from his fan at that time, had asked MSV (not knowing he was speaking to MSV) to call later.

MSV added "Naan Unga Parama Rasigan Pesaren". Raja then identified MSV's voice and he requested MSV to hand-over the phone to Yuvan. Raja yelled at Yuvan for not mentioning that he was with MSV when he had called.

MSV described this jovial and casual incident to MSVTimes Core Crew members during their recent meeting!

Dear Friends,
It has been an inexplicable happening around when people try to project information as if everything happened only in the last few years of "our own memory".To get over the agonising anger that springs up from such ill-conceived utterances, we need to condition ourselves to look at the ambience. Somehow things have deteriorated so much that people resort to propogate their whims and fancies as cardinal truth! Yet, to sustain our views, certain logical deductions are ideal.
Any child believes that the mother is the world and his/her father is the universe. It is a beginnibg until the child goes to scool for KG STUDY. On day 2 of schooling, if the father tries to correct the child, it says "You know nothing, only my teacher knows every thing" Why this transformation?- Just an exposure.
In a few years the same child realises the venerated teacher in KG class is not so good as the new head master or the Professor presently known. The 'universe and the world' are just myths.
In a few more years of placement, all the OLD heros turn zeros and the child believes all the oldies are not worth their glory and FEELS "I AM THE SUPREME BEING". If the 'child' is in a state of affluence now, every other sycophant gathers around the child raising the hollow slogan
'ANNAN VAAZHGA, AVAR THAM PUGAZH ONGUGA'. Without understanding what is "Avar tham Pugazh' the crowd around claps, whistles and runs into a frenzy of hysteria -uncontrollable. In a sea of confused gathering anything is right. In that crowd you ask anyone as to why he was whistling or clapping, he would sheepishly blink to tell everyone did so. I too did it. Mass hysteria can be built up by planned media hype portraying some one to mammoth scales indicating the fact that those who indulge in this game are too small persons and for them any other thing looks formidable - for, to understand ONE NEEDS SENSE and TO BE A SYCOPHANT ONE NEEDS NOTHING INCLUDING SELF RESPECT . Only logic-based sense can cure the malady.
I have gained a major insight from these happenings.
MSV was composing songs for Hindi movies and was adored as the
MELLISAI MANNAR for his Hindi Songs ! Anyway MSV was a NATIONAL HERO from this pronouncement as TFM had to wait for the rusted doors to open - Oh a grand opening indeed!!!!!!!
Sometimes child's prattle can be interesting too.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman Navi Mumbai.

Dear Prof. Raman,

Absolutely thought provoking indeed. Your inference between the child-adult play was beautifully narrated. You have been a teacher yourself for so many years, what else could we expect from you except these classy examples. Nethiadi Sir. By the way will the TFM wake up from the Maya it has got itself entangled in (read ever since 1977!!!) atleast now????????

Cheers

it is in no way pride or pleasure that yuvan was thrillled at the meet of msv
and going by what was told by mam it is giving a shocking feeling that how immatured our people are and that in no way reduces the name or fame of master.
yuvan must be in late twenties and ask him to sing a tune of our master of any decade .
i am not to offend anyone ,but this is no a thrilling news rather

"பேட்டியின்போது யுவன் சொன்னது....

சுருக்கமாகச் சொன்னால் 'இசையென்றால் எங்க அப்பா. எங்க அப்பா என்றால் இசை'. அவ்வளவுதான்" "

This is Yuvan's personal belief and it is his right to believe so and shows the respect Yuvan has towards his dad.

At the same time....

"1976 ல் அன்னக்கிளி மூலம் என் அப்பா (இளையராஜா) தமிழ் திரையிசையை எழுப்பி விட்டார். அதிலிருந்துதான் தமிழ்த் திரைப்படப் பாடல்கள் வெளியுலகுக்கு தெரியத் துவங்கின"

This has a BIG factual error... I'd like to re-quote our Saradha's lines again to answer this:

"யுவனின் இந்தப் பேட்டியைப் பார்த்தபோது எனக்கு ஏற்பட்ட உணர்வு ஒன்றே ஒன்றுதான். 'அப்படீன்னா அதற்கு முன்னர் விஸ்வநாதன்... விஸ்வநாதன்னு ஒருத்தர் திரையிசையில் என்ன செய்து கொண்டிருந்தார்?' என்பதுதான்"

May be true.. but this was shared by MSV himself to us and we need to share these experiences with the rest of our MSV Club members. Even if it is trivial.

We in Tamil Film Industry are blessed to have a great pool of Music composers right from the days of talkie introduction.

MSV was the torch bearer for almost two decades and then it was Illayaraja who took on the Tamil film music in his style for a decade.

The point I would like to make here is, no doubt, Illayaraja has contributed to the Tamil films in his style and was ruling high in his period. But..projecting Illayaraja as the person who glorified the Tamil film music as never before is doing unjustice to his predecessors, particularly aiming at MSV. Kathukuttis claim that people were only listening to Hindi songs and they were made to listen to Tamil songs only after Illayaraja's style of music came. They refer to the films like YADHOH KI BHARAT, ARADHANA, HARE RAMA HARE KRISHNA, BOBBY. I cannot defend that these film songs were not superhits. Yes they were mega hits. But we Tamils appreciate talent where ever they are..enjoy the music in whatever form it is available. And we enjoyed these songs. At the same time did we not appreciate and profusely enjoy the songs of MSV during that period, like ULAGAN SUTRUM VAALIBAN, AVAN THAN MANITHAN, ABOORVA RAAGANGAL, NETRU INRU NAALAI, ENGA MAAMA. I cannot go on and list all the movies in that period. That itself is degrading MSV.

Why MSV? Even his predecessors have taken Tamil film Music in their own style and have conducted a parallel Music industry in Chennai along with Mumbai Music industry. We were no way inferior. Though we were enjoying the likes of T.R.Mahalingam, K.B.Sundrambal, P.U.Chinnappa, M.K.Thiagaraja Bhagavathar, Thiruchi Loganathan, M.L.Vasanthakumari,,we were probably enjoying the voice of Md.Rafi, Mukesh and other Hindi voices in 50's too. The trend in both the Industry is diametrically different. We were influenced by Carnatic and they were run by the influence of Ghazal. Hence in the mood of listening to both the kinds of music our audience would have appreciated both.

MSV though did not deviate from his predecessors, was also able to bring in lot of melody, bring the influence of Ghazal in some of his songs, improve the orchestration, try lot of western formats, adopting jazz style in his songs, bringing in lot of innovations in his songs, gave lot of importance to lyric and emotions.. I dont know..I would have left many more.

Would Illayraja's fans say that Tamilians didnot listen to Hindi songs in his period like before ? Now let me give some list of Hindi film albums which were runaway hits after his arrival...Sholay!(1976), Hum Kisisey Kum Nahin, Qurbani, Disco Dancer, Dance Dance, Hero, Tezab, Quamat se Quamat Tak, Maine Pyar kiya, Aashiq, Dil hai ki manta nahin, Kal nayak, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..Are these enough or should I have to list those superhit songs in that films too? While people in that era enjoyed the songs of Illayaraja, they also welcomed these Hindi songs.. That is the truth, And Illayaraja was not able to stop people clapping for these Hindi songs. Or did we shut our doors for the Telugu Music album "Shankarabharanam", music scored by our K.V.Mahadevan, in the late 70's very much after the arrival of Illayaraja.

Illayaraja deserves credit in Tamil Film Industry. BUT GIVE THE CREDIT FOR WHAT HE DESERVES. MSV himself would be the first person to appreciate him. NO JEALOUSY BY ANYONE FOR THAT. BUT DONT GIVE UNDUE CREDIT AND MORE IMPORTANTLY DONT THROW MUD AT OTHERS WITH INTENTION OR WITHOUT INTENTION.

P. Sankar - Tirunelveli.

hi shankar

i really endorse your view .

there are always Listeners to songs from any language , including malayalam , telegu .

the claim , that Ilayaraja stopped changed the trend of listening to hindi songs is over exaggerated . as you pointed out .as even now , the hindi songs are popular .

the list of Msv Hits during that late 70s , in addition to yr list Nalai namathey (Anbu malargaley -who can forget ) all Kb movies , (inspite of fate at box office )MGR < SHIVAJI movies - not to forget BILLA

Yuvan 's view is a view as a son - its understandable .
But as a rep of TFM-its condemable , as he suppress the FACT . iF HE DOESNOT KNOW -HE SHOULD ATLEAST LEARN FROM HIS FATHER . .

I am very sad to know that we are giving this much importance for foolish statements by
avan
ivan
yuvan...?.

not only yuvan, the people who are giving statements that 'tfm got glorified only from 1976' are all 'kathukutees', even it is actor Saruhasan (because he gave a statement like this recently).

100 % I will vouch for Mr. Irene . If we start getting worried about such novices , we will continue to suffer .Its sheer ignorance on music of yesteryears.

And those who worship the composers of today will bound to face the same fate after 10 years. Even today's so called musicians will be ridiculed soon. But the music of the 50s and 60s will last forever. After all they have already stood the test of times for more than 40 - 45 years !

One can see the trend of today already trying to copy / imitate / remix / rehash or whatever way you want to call. This is another disgusting trend emerging and it only exposes the composers of today .

Dear Members,

All of by our sheer excitement gave an undue publicity to Yuvan Shankar Raja in the process of this discussion. Yuvan's claim is totally one sided (if he doesn't say this the least IR would do is to disown him) and we need not get perturbed at all. I understand the pulse of all fellow members and it is in the interest of MSVTIMES.COM that we shun this topic and get on with our prime objective of glorifying the unparralleled work done by our Legend MSV. Our Legend's work need not be certified by a person like Yuvan who was not even born when MSV's music ruled this world. Mr. Yuvan must refrain from making such remarks which clearly proves that he still has a long way to go to achieve something.

Last but not the least, WE DO NOT NEED A CHARACTER LIKE YUVAN TO CERTIFY WHO HAS ACHIEVED WHAT IN TFM AS NEITHER DOES HE HAVE THE AGE NOR THE EXPERIENCE. Let's forget this topic at this level and move on.

Dear Vaidy sir, let my post be the last for this thread.

We are watching in TV programmes, vearious music competitions are going in various topics like 'Ragamaliga', Sapthaswarangal etc.

The participants for those programmes are aged less than 18 years.

But they choose the songs of 50s and 60s, that means they are selecting the songs not only before they born, bute before their parents have born.

They never touch any new songs.

So, it is the right time for Yuvan Shanker Raja...s to think "WHAT WE ARE DOING NOW, BY GETTING MONEY FROM PRODUCERS".
