A Handful of Piano Picks - Song 5
Ram

........F#................................A#......... D#m

Humming.

Scintillating Humming....

MSV : அ ஹ ஹா....... ஆ.........
த2............ப ம1 க2......

Chord : A#......

Splendid Ram Very Happy Very Happy

I must have listened to this classic innumerable noof times but every time I get a feeling of hearing to a new song Very Happy

Superb writeup .

As you said earlier also in Vannakili song, the rounding off at select points is something which gives an extordinary punch to the song !

During the charanam, there will be a brief pause and PS will resume with Ketten andha paadalai marakka villai ! Vow amazing change !

An absolute foot tapper of a song ! I can imagine Mellisai Mannar's mood while composing . Summa thulli thulli gudhithu kondu pottirupaar Mannar Very Happy

Great going Ram .

Dear Ram,

What gives me immense pleasure is the task you have taken - to analyse songs based on Piano. In my opinion, I don't think any one else in the world has used Piano as extensively as MSV. I still wonder after listening to the songs from My Piano Man, and am absolutely wonder struck at the way how MSV handles a western intrument with total ease. Truely a Master par Excellence indeed our Legend. By the way I would like to request the members of our forum who have been analysing these songs to select & print these exclusive postings in the form of a book so that the present generation gets to know the nuances fully. Also Ram, when is the Crew list getting uploaded? Dont you think its long over due (we have already lost Raju, please understand)

MSV IS MUSIC
VAIDY

Dear Ram,

Wonderful analysis. Keep it up. Another speciality of the song as far as I could observe is the first "Naan" is elongated than other "Naans" that follow in "Naan Nandri Solvaen" and other Naan are started on adidha yeduppu and only Nandri solvaen is on Samam. As the first Naan is elongated one you need to keep pause and start the rythm beat at the start of Nandri solvaen and well! the "Naans" that follow will get correctly seated in the rythm cycle. That is also a novelty.

Kindly revert back with your observation

With love
Sampat

Dear Ram,
I have been late to respond...due to preoccupations... One thing which has been unique always in your writings is the variety with which you are able to present your Introduction for each of the song!... and...ofcourse, your தமிழ்!... Very nice indeed!...

In general, a beginning (of a Pallavi or Charanam) is done with Notations like Sa, Ga, Pa. These notations are natural starting points... and offer a comparitive ease over beginning with other Notations.

The Charanam starts with Ni2... which again is a generally uncommon thing... This imposes a comparitively stringent demand on the Singer's ability to pronounce the Swara Sthaanam.

(Sampat, correct me if I am wrong)

With love

Thanks, dear Sampath & NVS !

Well said, Sampath...."Nandri Solven" will be taken from "Samam". The following "Naans" will fit in the "Thaalam".

Dear NVS, yes...starting charanam from "N2" is a great challenge and imagination !!!

this nan nanri solven has another intersting thing to note .
when the beginning of any song's line is too short the composer will also make the tune too small in terms of time for singing
but imagine in a sheet of paper line as folows

nan nanri solven
en kankalukku
unnai en aruge
kondu vandhadarku

if a song ,not even a song but a verse is given as above how you would imagine to have a composition . it will be shorty and quick to end ,but our man had done the other way where he had taken the song to a different pitch only to face the challenge himself and always he succeeds in doing it .
every song a labor pain for him and somewhere in a tea shop when we listen to this and enjoys it , the pain we have goes off.
what more to say . i am happy that i have neither born late nor had born early . had i , i would have missed this man .
thank god, he is there flesh and blood and i am there , of course just there.

Ram

With Woofer on to my PC , with speakers , this song is unbelievable Shocked Very Happy

the double bass background is beyond imagination ! Shocked

I have to put shock icon only to express the shock on a composer who has done so many astonishing accomplishments but still looks so simple Very Happy

what we all heard in radio those days is nothing Crying or Very sad

Eppadi vaanzdha podhum indha inimai illai

With so less tech development, still the recording is great !

I tell U, this song has no peer
