I think MSV first movie after getting separated from TKR.

MASTER PROVED A POINT. Song set to rock and roll beat.

song starts with OH LITTLE FLOWER SEE YOUR LOVER with usal accordion support again OOOHAHO LITTLE FLOWER SEE YOUR LOVER
Sudeenly song moved to fast tempo OOOO SIVAKKA SIVAKKA SIRIKUM AZHAKIYLE
then OREY THARAM OREY THARAM ORAVADAVAA VILLIAYA DA VAA .what a variation. Shocked

This one is laid back tune . MSV used piano throughout the song and excellent guitar support. one can notice change of tempo dramatically in second stanza.

We have another special song in this movie by PS oooo OODUM ENNANGALE.

ramesh

mr. Ramesh

you have opened a seperate topic for this song, so it is better you expalin some more details and analysis about this song.

but what a pity, you did not even mentioned the name of the movie.

(it is from 'neelavaanam')

as you said it is not the first movie for msv sir, after departed from tkr.

his first movie was 'nee' and the second one was 'kalangarai vilakkam'. these informations already mentioned by mr. venugopal soundehararajan in another post.

This song has an un-common prelude.. A violin streak, followed by a small guitar piece and then the pallavi. At the pallavi, the rhythm starts, set to a clear "Thisram" (Three beat category), piano being the dominant rhythm setter.

As mentioned by Ramesh, the variation in "Orey Tharam... Orey Tharam" will be simply fabulous. That too the strings support at the back-ground during "Orey tharam" will enhance this variation beautifully. Another spot for yet another variation, is in the third line - "see your chittukkannum pattu...pattu sikkikonda lover...". First time, during this line, there will be a kind of silence at the back-ground. During subsequent repetitions of this line, the piano support can be seen at the back-ground. The beauty is the change in the chords in the piano support in that specific line.

"Chittu Kannam Pattu... Pattu Sikkikonda Lover" will have a simple tune, but the variation at the piano notes (if carefully noted) during "Pattu Sikkikonda" will make this piece extra-ordinary! At this moment I do not have the exact chord that has been used, as am yet to analyse to that level. But will be doing that soon and share with the club.

Vaadhiyangal Moolam Paadalai Paadagarukku Sugamaaga Eduthu Kodupathil, MSV Oru Mannan; Yes.... After a pre-lude or inter-lude, the way MSV lands back to the Pallavi or Charanam with the perfect notes and instrumentation, where the singer will take-off from then, is a lesson for any aspiring musician, FOR LIFE. Each and every song can be an example for this fact. Even a lame man, with least musical knowledge can continue the song with the silky flow and perfect links by MSV. Some striking examples can be as follows:

The song that comes instantly to Sri.Visweshwaran (Santoor and Guitar player in MSV's orchestra) when mentioned about MSV's flow, is "Iravum Nilavum" from "Karnan", a great song in "Suddha Saarang". The mesmerizing dual shenoi in the first interlude finishing with the quick flute notes, before P.Susheela starts "Malligai Panjanai" is one of the amazing ways and examples of MSV landing to the charanam after an inter-lude, which becomes absolutely the perfect reach, for any singer, for an enjoyable and comfortable start of the song.

Above is an example for a take-off from an interlude. Let us see a case from pre-lude. "Viswanathan Velai Vendum" from "Kadhalikka Neramillai". Paadal edutha edupileye, dhool kilappi irukkum paadalgaili idhuvum ondru. Matrondru "Varavendum Oru Pozhuthu". Both of these songs clearly have "Classical Jazz" prelude. (Will take up a detailed analysis on these two songs sometime later). The Brass-piano start for "Viswanathan Velai Vendum" is something unimaginable and no one will be able to start the song with that heavy "Jazz" and "Brass", until MSV makes the song lighter with a few mandolin/guitar notes, where the song becomes absolutely easy and comfortable for the singer to start the song, "Maadimeley Maadi Katti.."

Now, back to "Oh little flower"...after the third line "see your chittu kannil.." gets repeated for the second time, piano will roll-out to higher notes, easing a smooth take-off for TMS with a humming "Ahaaa....Sivakka Sivakka"; A small "Uruvi Melam" type of instrument will get added to the rhythm from this point. What a combination of this instrument, with a piano based song.

MSV strictly follows the rule "I will not follow any rules" and this song is yet another testimony.

"MSV Certainly Rules" - Venky

Dear Ram,
Very truly said and well presented !!!! There is no one else in this world who can give "TAKE-OFF" notes to the singer to start singing the charanam when the interlude is complete. Our Master also FILLS the gap between the charanam and pallavi with amazing notes as a "link" between the two when the former is complete !!!

WHAT A CREATOR HE IS !!!!!

As you are talking on JAZZ music, I happen to read an amazing article on the usage of the same in the TFM in DHOOL.COM (I know many of this forum members are members of the DHOOL also.....yet this may be helpful for the new ) amazingly written by Venkat (certainly not me...hehehehe) and you could find them in the links below :

http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/673.html

http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/680.html

http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/686.html

http://www.dhool.com/sotd2/713.html

All these links focus predominantly on our Master's wonders with JAZZ music and very well written by Venkat technically...

Am just pasting here the "GOLDEN WORDS" of Mr.Venkat that concludes his BIG series of analyses on "JAZZ In TFM"

Dear Ram

Thanks a lot adding more information about the song(little flower). I think if we go further with some knowledge we can unearth more surprise and unimaginable things in MSV CREATIONS.

First time, during this line, there will be a kind of silence at the back-ground.

Yes I forgot to mention about this special effect.

I would like to point out POOMALAYIL song . where MSV gives same silence effect in the second stanza(where violin ends and flute starts)before PS starts MANJAM MALARKALAI THOOVIA KOLAM.

irenehastings: I forgot to mention name of the movie and I think that is not big mistake.

I have written whatever know with little knowledge I have(may be very basic).

A WONDERFUL CREATOR.

Excellent Example .. Saradha madam.. A layman enjoys the song, feels comfortable singing the song, feels as though these are songs created for him ...and the credit should should entirely go to the Music Director.

Dear All,
Please bring out many such fine matters involved in the songs of MSV to the knowledge of every one. Sincere thanks for Ram for bringing these things into limelight.

A Handful of Piano Picks - Song 4

"Oh Little Flower"

"Oh Little Flower... See your Lover.... See your..."

மீண்டும் "Oh Little Flower..."

Dear Ram

Wonderful Analysis of 'Oh Little Flower'.

I know you used to tell always about this song and your analysis
clearly explains why you are so mesmerised to this number of
Mellisai Mannar.

It was really interesting to see an Analysis after a considerable
silence from practically all MSVForum members !

Dear Members ! Where are all of you ? Pl keep posting on
various aspects of MSV's creations. The enthu should not go
down at all since all of us are building the Website content so beautifully and so professionally.

Vaidy : As we were discussing, we will try to take a printout of wonderful analysis of the Genius, probably organise a meeting with MSV, introduce the ForumMember, make him read his writings and
get his Autograph on it and present back the writers.

I think the CoreCrew will agree to this.

So friends, Keep building contents which are going to be so valuable to
the future generation.

Regards
Ramki
