Dear Forum Members,
That the article on the Legendary Guitar player Phillip was an absolute cracker by Bala of The Hindu. Though it's been a long overdue, better late than never.
The "Man with the Golden Guitar" as is affectionately known, Phillip was a player of a really different class wherein many of his own improvisations in a song were just retained on most of the occasions by many MDs including MSV. Bala also recalled his discussions with Radha Vijayan who runs Mirra School of Music in Singapore where he imparts training apart from acting as the regional examinations centre for Trinity College of Music, London. His father was none other than the legendary hero of yesteryears, Padmashree. M.K. Radha...
Radha Vijayan himself revers Mr. Phillip as one of the finest guitarists ever produced by India and no wonder the interludes played by him several years ago haunt us even today. One day during a casual conversation, Mr. Radha Vijayan started playing the guitar verses from this song "Parakkum Pandhu Parakkum" with such ease & clarity I was really awe struck. Mr. Vijayan continued to tell me, "see how MSV has composed, as players we seldom forget these notes" and even if we were to be awaken in the dead of the night, we would still be able to play confidently" and that is the power of MSV's compositions, he exclaimed. How true!!!
Just to recall, Mr. Radha Vijayan came down all the way from Singapore to play in "Vaarthaigal Sollum Vaathiangal" in 2008 organised by msvtimes.com and left an indelible mark in all our hearts with his impeccable rendering of Aaada Varalam & Yaar Andha Nilavu. Nostalgic moments indeed.
Bala truly deserves all our appreciation for, many of these Legendary players make a "rewind" amongst us through such articles as otherwise they would have been totally forgotten. It is highly commendable that Bala chose to bring all these great players in front of us, as they were mostly "unsung heroes" behind the screen. Bala has also assured that many more would be covered in the days to come...
CHEERS
MSV IS MUSIC!!!
