Dear Friends,
The song has been a meticulous prescription for diluting, defusing or destroying Ego by 'developing' attitudes. Though , near similar guidelines are seen in the later movie-"aandavan kattaLai" in that never-to-die song 'aaru maname aaru', the one in 'sumaithAngi' is a palliative; for, the song 'manidhan enbavan' addresses all earthly constraints and tries to suggest the value of being 'accommodative, or 'giving and taking', 'foregoing' and 'sacrificing' as integral elements of human life.

The ultimate message is attaining peace- the inner peace which eludes the average human being just by an unabated sequences of hurdles to basic living, bread winning and finally seeking a life partner of one's desire
[ however cinematic the idea may be].

If some ranking of contributions for the song were to be made, it is kaNNadAsan who snatches the first place in the sense that he has chosen to pinpoint the value of mind ['manam'] and character ['guNam'] as the two mutually inclusive parameters that determine one's attitude as much as they enter conflict at major moments of decision-making.

What surprises [as much as it delights the listener] is at that point of time in his life, 'kaNNadAsan' would have just been in his late thirties! What a grand philosophy that kavi Arasu should already have imbibed, if he were to avail of a movie situation to portray the virtuous skills of 'mind management'.

One has to salute the articulate skills of kavi arasu who has skillfully handled the 'emotion-charged' personal predicament of the screen hero to dole out practical advice without inflicting injury to anyone else.
This is precisely the spot where present day cinema tries to justify violence as a due remedy for personal problems.

I am nearly confident that only the likes of 'kannadasan could deliver mighty concepts majestically paraphrased, couched in simplicity of vocabulary.
That way kavignar elevated himself to Divinely order from human form
[ he has been the first man to reach that stature of 'Deivam' in this group]

Please wait for more on this.

Regards K.Raman Madurai.
