|
|
I watched the Vijay awards function on 26th between 8.30 pm and 10 pm. Our Mellisai Mannar was awarded the title Isai Chakravarthy for his contribution to film music. The award was presented by L.Subramanian and Kavita Krishnamurthy. LS said that in the sixties he was advised to listen to Viswanathan Ramamurthy's songs. He said that the duo created a new trend by bringing in the concept of Mellisai , a refreshing change from the carnatic music based songs that was the vogue till then. Their compositions had a spectacular range. Each song was different. The tunes, the orchestrations were all so different and outstanding. Their contribution is UNPARALLELLED (While I have paraphrased LS's words, the word 'unparallelled' was used by him.)
The compere Gopinath was profuse in his praise for MSV.
MSV, as usual, passed on the credit to his musicians, singers etc.
One interesting thing is that though not giving what is due to him, the electronic media often finds it necessary to bring MSV into the limelight. A result of a troubled conscience, perhaps!
This program is likely to be retelecast this afternoon between 1 pm and 2.30 pm. _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

Isai Chakravarthy is an apt title to our MSV.
He is not a mere mellisai Mannar .
A programme well conducted . What I really liked in particular was when L.Subramniam touched upon the nuances of orchestration and the innovation that the duo introduced those years ! An appreciation coming from the knowledgeable Violin Maestro is pleasing
The highlight was the group singing of rock songs of MSV-TKR :
1. Naadodi pogavendum ododi ( Anbevaa )
2. Viswanathan velai vendum ( K.neramillai )
3. Paartha nyabagam illaya ( Pudhiya paravai )
and few more. The singers were exceptional and energetic too |

I missed this programme.
It will be very nice if this particular scene of MSV receiving the award and LS speech is upload in the forum. _________________ Meendum Santhippom Viraivil...

Dear Mr. Balaji,
Thanks for the links provided by you. It is very kind of you. I have just started seeing the first piece, and having sighted the MM himself and witnessed LS and son, the beginning was electrifying. Going to listen more...

Dear Balaji,
Thanks a lot for providing the link.
Speech of LS is very nice short and sweet.
As usual our Master receiving the award in a very humble way and giving the credit to all his co-workers.
Thanks again. _________________ Meendum Santhippom Viraivil...

Dear Mr.Balaji,
I could watch the entire show provided in those links.
The highlight, as expected, was the choice of words used by Vani Jayaram, PBS and LS. It glorified the mood. VJ, especially, looked a personification of humility and guru bhakti. PBS, when he spoke, represented timelessness. It sounded as though time stood still and took us back to olden days. Like a sinusoidal occurrence of natural events, between these two giants there was a dip in the wave. Let us forget it.
The medley of rock songs of our master was beautifully befitting the background. All of the young singers were passionate.
Thanks,
Sai Saravanan |
