You are righ,t professor, about the oldness of the movie. The film is of 1948, as indicated at the top of the review itself: Abhimanyu 1948.
I have given the date of publication of the review as Oct 2, 2008. The correct date is Oct 2, 2009. I am sorry for the inadvertent lapse. _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

Dear Professor, Rengaswami and Shankar and friends,
It is really interesting to read about MSV's earlier days. Just today I was browsing through the pages of Kalki 1969 issues and it featured a serial ... Pakkathu Veettu Pramugar, featuring views of neighbours of celebrities. In one such issues, it was MSV's neighbour's part ... it was amazing ... he has described each and every point as it is as what we have heard and discussed here. (I shall try to bring i t out here as soon as possible). It is better we wait and read it instead of my narration.
One aspect I would not like to dwelve into ... writings by so called paper work historians... They just compel their personal feel and opinions on you in the form of writing history ... They may not be a witness to those what they narrate and hence the authenticity is subject to confirmation. MSV the honest man he is, it is best we stand on his own statements alone.. I dont want to pin point any particular person. but he says Sivaji Ganesan was struggling for livehood after Parasakthi, which was not true. From 1952 to 1955 he has given almost 15 to 17 pictures which comes to 5 films to 6 films an year ... considering the scenario at that time, it was a herculean task for a debutant .. So I dont want to take these so self proclaimed historians seriously unless and otherwise they are not biased.
Of course this is out and out my personal view and opinions tend to differ.

Dear Mr. Shankar,
I think for 'ennaruge nee irunthaal' credit has been given to V-R in the titles. This what I remember. Mr. Raghavengran may clarify.
I have a doubt about two songs:
1) Singaara Velane - Could MSV have composed the music for his mentor? SMS has not given another classic song like this.
2) Ennam poela kannan vandhaan from Poovum Pottum. Govardhanam is the composer. But the song has a very distinct MSV stamp, especially in the orchestration. Has MSV composed this and allowed Govardhanam to use his name? (For Telugu version of Ramu, Govardhanam is the MD. He has just copied the Tamil songs. I was surprised when one of my Telugu friends appreciated 'Nilave ennidam' Telugu song and praised Govardhanam for the wonderful composition.) _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

Dear Mr.Parthavi,
I would like to respond to your surmise on MSV being behind some of the top numbers. Singara velanE dEva of Konjum salangai has been truly credited to SMS by various segments.May be SMS has modelled this number on a pure classical note impelled by the song situation. Also, the blend oF SJ and Karukurichi AruNachalam's nagaswaram has been richly appreciated for merging the two though the two were independently recorded without SJ and KARUKURICHI being able to come to recording on the same occasion. Also the times of the song was such that VR had made a deep impression in TF industry and any of MSV's help would not have escaped attention.
Your second surmise 'eNNam pOla kaNNan vandhAn' of poovum pottum by R.Govardhanam needs being understood as that of RG himself. The fact is, he also has a music background being the brother of R Sudharsanam besides being an assistant to MSV for years. At best we can believe that these are cases of MSV's impact on contemporary styles of composition. For that matter in many of Shankar -Ganesh songs we can see MSV every inch.
As regards Shankar[Ganesh]'s relationship to CRSubbaraman, I had only suggested my 'old memory' and I am not too sure if the two were brothers or not. Sorry if we I have misled any one. Thanks for the opportunity.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman Madurai. _________________ Prof. K. Raman

excellent, write up Mr parthavi and others who pitched in .
i just want to add my views on two points
shankar is younger brother of CRS
and MSVs memory is world known ,and he always mixes up years , incidents etc on many - vatsan may give many quotes , and MSV's self destructive, wrong claims .
thts why i am keen , we should collect many tit bits ,details on msv , and record here ,for future generation .
ofcourse , i am not claiming the details given by others/magazines are defect free , but when , we gather from many sources , may be the truth will stay back _________________ vijayakrishnan |

Dear Mr. SR Shankar,
Thanks for the information. I was not aware of this. But Pothigai people are inconsistent. They will suddenly do something crazy. Secondly, the 'expostulation' on the song may not always be enjoyable. Anyway, it is good that you find it enjoyabvle for the past month or so.
There is good competition for Pothigai. 10 to 11 we have old songs in Jaya Max ( music channel) Around this time, probably from 10.30 pm, we have Thenaruvi in Vasanth TV. For the past one week,Isaiaruvi (music channel of Kalaignar TV) has been telecasting old songs from 11 pm to 12 pm. We also have the retelecast of the morning Then Kinnam of Jaya TV from 11 am to midnight, though, of late, this program is losing its lustre due to poor song selection. For people like me who go to bed only the next day (that is after midnight), these are great boons. There is no doubt that after listening to these songs, we go to bed with a sense of euphoria and fulfillment, whatever might have been our mood during the day. _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

dear parthavi / shankar
not to leave out world space - kl radio - vaan kuyil - from 9 -11 pm
mostly mm's songs
suryan fm - programme by YAZH sudhakar from 11 pm , and therafter
another person (rajasekharan ) anchors ninaithaley innikum -
the selection would be good .
jaya max - keeps excellant songs but will be repetitive .
thennaruvi -will be good because the first part would be black and white
and after one hr it would be songs from color movies .
WIN TV - also telecasts around 10.30 pm .
vividhbharathi broadcasts good old songs during afternoon think around 3 pm , as well as evg 6 to 6.55 .
so there is a lot to enjoy- much more than our chool days . _________________ vijayakrishnan |

Dear Mr. Raghavendran, the information on Sun Direct having a separate channel for old film songs is 'music' to my years, though I don't have Sun Direct (or any other DTH connection.) This is because, since long I have been feeling sad that the World Space Radio, while having separate channels for carnatc music and old Hindi songs has not considered it necessary to have a separate channel for old Tamil film songs. Now Sun Direct has fulfilld this need.
I had earlier expresssed through this forum the need for a separate TV channel for MSV. I hope someone will do this. I would do it myself, if I have the means! _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)
